Enabling Scalable, Responsive Tab Handling in Firefox for Productive Workflows with 100–200 Open Tabs

Making moves

I have been a Firefox user for over ten years. I do not attempt to compare Firefox and Brave in terms of internal architecture; my feedback is based solely on real-world usage.

Firefox becomes barely usable for me once more than around 50 tabs are open. Tabs that have not been used for some time need to fully reload when selected, during which Firefox blocks most user interaction for several seconds. This severely disrupts productive work, even on a system with 64 GB of RAM.

About a year ago, I switched to the Brave browser, which remains smooth and responsive with 100–200 open tabs under comparable conditions. This difference in practical usability is the main reason I no longer use Firefox as my daily work browser.

Firefox will only become a viable option for me again once its responsiveness with many open tabs improves significantly. I am not asking for feature parity, but for a level of performance that allows productive work with 50+ tabs — a level already achieved by other modern browsers.

Improving tab handling and reducing UI blocking during tab restoration would be of enormous benefit to power users. Please make Firefox fast and responsive again in 2026.
