Bug in Settings: "Delete cookies on close" completely wipes cookie exceptions / site settings

xoobit-com
Making moves

When enabling "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed", Firefox automatically toggles the History settings to "Use custom settings for history" and forces settings that wipe the entire exception list upon closing.

If you try to disable the global clearing under History, the top checkbox for deleting cookies gets disabled as well. This creates a loop in the UI where it is currently impossible to delete cookies on shutdown while keeping specified exceptions.

Please fix this UI conflict so that cookie exceptions are respected as intended without being cleared along with the regular cookies.

To be honest, this entire area of the settings is confusing and needs a rethink.

In Microsoft Edge, you have one section in the settings with two options:
Clear browsing data now
Choose what to clear every time you close the browser
And in that second one, you can choose which sites to keep cookies from.

In Firefox, you have:
Clear browsing data
Clear data for specific sites
Manage exceptions
Clear cookies and site data every time you close Firefox
All in one section, followed by:
Remember history
Customise history
Never remember history
In another 😵🥴

"Never remember history" and "Clear cookies and site data every time you close Firefox" seem to
amount to the same thing.  And if you choose "Customise history", then go into "Choose what you
want Firefox to remember", there is there "Always use Private Browsing Mode", which again does
the same thing the other two options do -- three options to essentially do the same-thing! 🙃

Surely this could be simplified somehow...?
