The World Cup is almost here, and Firefox Desktop and Mobile are rolling out a way to keep up with the tournament right from your browser Home page.

Our World Cup widgets help you quickly see what’s happening at-a-glance:

  • Browse upcoming matches, and recent results
  • View live scores for all matches as they happen
  • Follow teams to make the matches you care about easier to find

From quickly checking today's match schedule to tracking a team's progress throughout the entire tournament; the World Cup widget has something for every level of football fan.

You’ll start seeing the World Cup widget on the Firefox Home page Desktop in the days running up to the tournament start. It's available on mobile already.

Give it a try, follow your team, and let us know what you think! 🦊

Hi Amber,

Firefox for Android: App is updated but has no option to enable the widget. If i search for Word Cup in Settings, it returns an entry, but sends me back to Home configuration screen without the widget option.

On Windows desktop, it doesn't show any widgets at all. Searching for ’widget' returns no results.

On Desktop, the widgets are being rolled out over the next couple of days. They might not be there right away, but keep an eye out!

And you will need to restart your browser to get it updated to receive the widgets.

Got it working on mobile after reinstalling the app.

edit: And it vanishes once i sync my account.

I really dislike that the widget is there on my start screen without my doing. You can inform me and ask me if I want the widget but not add it and presume I am interested in soccer.

Cut this crap out.

I won’t tolerate ads like this in my open-source browser. And I sure as hell won’t have it making requests to some unknown API. Firefox is a privacy-first browser - not Chrome, not Edge, not some corporate spyware. Fix this now, please!

If anyone wants that creepy Donald Trump Word Cup nonsense, they can install a Firefox extension or another browser. But it has no place in Firefox itself!

That's a funny idea, but it should have been thought through better. While others criticize the World Cup in a soon-to-be authoritarian and fascist state, Mozilla, the savior of the internet, is doing WHAT?

Nice addition!

Request (minimally for Windows 11 platform): Please add 12/24hr toggle to World Cup widget, as is already available for Clock widget.
Additionally, intl.regional_prefs.use_os_locales is true on my machine (maybe it can follow this?)
Have not tested on other platforms.

Thanks for the widgets though 🙂

Why? Not everybody shares your hobby.

I switched from Chrome to Firefox because Google made it harder to block ads. Now Firefox is doing the same by integrating such ads into the browser itself. If you like it, good for you, but for everybody else it's as annyoing as any other ad.

How to re-enable it when accidentally removed?

Same question. I deleted mine and can't figure out how to bring it back. Using Firefox on iOS.

The only way for me was: after logging out of firefox account (to prevent sync), cleaning the app cache and storage data, uninstaling than reinstalling in Android. Dont know for sure, but it seems this widget is tied to telemetry data/experimental studies, so if you opt-out after reinstalling the app, it disappears, but opt-in wont show it again.
In desktop its not showing to me yet.

This is exactly my concern, this is just another step on the encroachment of tracking and ads in the name of "FEATURES".

I figured it out on iOS:

New tab > 3 dots > settings gear > Home Tab> World Cup toggle

It worked!

And for Android too. Thanks

How do I disable these vestigial dialog boxes from ever appearing?

I do not want any Widget that support FIFA since they have declared their support for child rapist Donald Trump. I will blow a 12-gague before I ever support FIFA and other organizations that support child rapist Donald Trump!

Almost like Mozilla wants the next FIFA Peace Prize...a MAJOR award

Never wanted it, despise extra "features" that were never asked for, would prefer to ASKED instead of having Widgets shoved on me.  INSTANTLY Disabled...NEVER WANTED ANY OF THEM....ASK FIRST

Please stop pushing all these features. You are becoming just like all the other tech firms. Please just be a good browser. I dont want these features and i certainly dont want to be interrupted all the time, again and again. You are easier to replace then windows 10, but currently on a similar level of annoyance. Sry, love you so i had to tell you.
