Even after regulatory pressure in the EU and elsewhere, most Windows installs still nudge users hard toward Edge - repeated pop-ups after switching, "recommended" defaults during OS updates, and settings that reset. Firefox and other independent browsers rely on users actively resisting that friction to stay chosen.
Curious what others think: should OS-level browser choice screens be a one-time neutral prompt at setup (no logo bias, no re-prompting), or is ongoing enforcement the only way to keep it fair? Would also like to hear if anyone has data on how much these dark patterns actually move market share.
