Update to Firefox Developer Edition (October 2024) results in the following issues

erre213
Making moves

Toolbar icons disappear, leaving only the extensions icon. Even the '+' icon, which is used to add tabs, disappears, as well as those that are usually to the right of the address bar.

I have already restored the toolbar defaults;
I have entered diagnostic mode;
I have deleted prefs.js and xulstore.json in Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\;
I have deleted all cookies and history, etc.;
I have deleted the Mozilla folder entirely and reinstalled Firefox;

Nothing works. In some cases, the icons come back, but after closing and reopening Firefox, the problem repeats, only the extensions icon appears, and nothing else.

I can confirm, I'm experiencing the same issues, any attempts to rectify only works until a browser restart and then the UI is broken once again.

I can confirm the same issues.

I am having the same issues. I originally thought it might something corrupted so I uninstalled using revo uninstaller and then reinstalled. The first time I opened the browser it looked fine, but since then it has been looked weird. refresh button is gone. forward and backward button is to the right. extensions button is to the left. If I change the toolbar configuration it just goes right back to this weirdness next time I open the browser. And all my bookmarks are gone.

Logged in here just to report that the same thing is happening to me: customized toolbar settings reset every time I restart FF.

I can also confirm these issues.  In addition to the above, the entire bookmarks bar is gone and cannot be restored through the usual method.

The only way everything can be restored (in my experience) is with Customize Toolbar > Restore Defaults, but it only lasts for that session. I need to repeat that workaround every time I launch FF Developer.

I had hoped the latest update (132.0b2) was a fix, but it was not.

Running a fully updated Linux Kubuntu 24.04.1.

This works like a charm to in fixing it. So far it's holding though and i don't have to do it on every relaunch. However, it's still in the update patches so had to turn off auto update until they fix it.

Glad to hear!  And yes, while I had to redo the fix on every launch, it has now settled into staying fixed. I've launched 4 times since I posted, and it's fine.  Hopefully it stays that way. Let's hope for a permanent fix from the developers soon!

Same issue. Tried restarting the browser and computer and whatever fix I try it just reverts back to the weird broken topbar layout.

I am having the same issues. I removed and installed Firefox 3 times. When it opens first time after installing it, it works. If I close it and reopen it, everything disappears.

When will this be fixed since I need my bookmarks for work?

Thanks!

In Desktop the workaround is to right-click on the tabs bar and click show menu. Then you have a Bookmarks menu and can look at the toolbar bookmarks.

Creating a new FF profile using

firefox -p

fix this for me!

I had this issue too. I was able to recover by doing the following for macOS, its basically a downgrade and import bookmarks thing:

- download the `131.0b9` version from here https://download-origin.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/devedition/releases/131.0b9/mac/ (it was the `en-US/` for me).

-  copy the bookmarkbackups folder to your desktop (or wherever) it was located here for me`~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/mp5uqhrj.dev-edition-default/bookmarkbackups`

- install Firefox Developer Edition version`131.0b9`

- make sure to IMMEDIATELY disable automatic updates in the settings so it wont update to the bugged newer version. I did this whole process and when i restarted FF Dev, it was updated and my bookmarks were gone again.

- follow instructions on how to import bookmarks from https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them#w_restoring-from-bac...

- you should select the most recent file in that bookmarkbackups folder to import

Here is the official fix from Bugzilla. You need to restore default toolbars, then it is fixed. The theme also goes back to default.

For clarity for folks reading along: 132b2 is out now and will stop changing/breaking the toolbars once they are configured a certain way (ie fixes the bug that got your browser into this state).

However, it will not change your current toolbar configuration - so if it's broken it will stay broken until you do something. We're very sorry about this but unfortunately there aren't backups inside Firefox (so even though we'd love to, we cannot put things back to how you had them organized beforehand on your behalf, because we have no way of finding out what that was), and we didn't restore things to the default configuration either - that would have required being able to detect who had and hadn't hit this bug, which would have been close to impossible to do reliably and seemed too risky to uplift to beta on such short notice while we had beta updates throttled. Plus the "change it all to the default" update would have still been disruptive and left you needing to make more changes.

To fix your toolbars, we recommend you:

right click any empty toolbar space and choose "Customize toolbar" (also accessible from the "View > Toolbars" main menu and the hamburger menu -> More -> Customize toolbar)
you can "restore defaults" (on the bottom right) to go back to the default toolbar configuration, and/or manually drag/drop items as you find helpful.

You can also use the context menus on toolbar items to move them between the main toolbar and overflow/unified extensions toolbars.

More details are available in https://support.mozilla.org/kb/customize-firefox-controls-buttons-and-toolbars .

To the Developers: If you were so concerned, why wouldn't you do that one job which you had to do? Test it before you destroyed millions of configurations? Were you so much in a hurry to unleash your genius?
In my case, additionally, I lost all extensions I was using regularly.

If you haven't been aware, firefox has been going down hill for awhile now. Or for that matter, any tech company nowadays. The tech scene has been riddled with incompetent wannabe coders that got to the position they are at by copying and pasting someone else's work and then not knowing how to fix it when bugs arise because of having no actual knowledge of coding. Take google for instance, apps/services that use to work great, now no longer make any sense, speech to text is a GREAT example, "smart" has become the new "ignorant".

Add me to the list of users who have also lost their bookmark toolbar.  Again.  Last time it happened I was obliged to stop using the developer edition as my default browser so the fact it has happened again with a subsequent update suggests the testing is not as rigorous as we deserve..

Can't believe such an update was released. I'm trying to get back to the older version where I'll most likely stay for a long time. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/131.0b9/win64/en-GB/

I can fully understand this problem if it occurred nightly, but destroying the develop version would be confusing.

Looking at the Bug tracker I assume It will be rolled out in 133 / the next update.

Was fixed yesterday: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1919721

As most settings seem to be still there and it is a rendering related issue, I think all profile settings are fine and we just need to wait for it.

Would be cool if someone could release ASAP.

No longer tracking history, 'delete everything on closing,' and sometimes will not even open Settings!

Sorry, should have said  'delete everything' on closing is stuck...cannot change that setting!

I had to right-click in empty space then select the customize toolbar option, this allows you to drag and drop the features where you want them to be.  I still haven't figured out how to get the bars back to original size.

I confirm the same issues, even the Bookmarks toolbar is showing nothing. This happened to me with version: 132.0b2 (aarch64)

I still have the same issues with v132.0b3 for macOS!

maybe your bookmarks file is corrupted form the other version, try this fix on my earlier post: https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/discussions/update-to-firefox-developer-edition-october-2024-results-...

I did this on version 131.0b9 which fixed the toolbar, then I upgraded to 132.0b3 and it persisted. If you import the bookmarks from a backup to 132.0b3 it might just work.

Yes, I am also facing same issues.

But what I think now I am getting used to it , Like I use ctrl+T , F5 for refresh etc.

I donot know it is going good or bad  me.
