Hi Thunderbird team,
Thunderbird Desktop is already approved for Google’s Advanced Protection Program (APP) — but the Android version isn’t. This means users enrolled in APP can’t log into their Gmail on Thunderbird for Android.
For context: Google’s Advanced Protection Program is designed for users who need extra account security (e.g. journalists, activists, or anyone at risk of targeted attacks). It restricts access to Gmail, Drive, and other data to a small number of trusted apps. Thunderbird Desktop is one of them — but unfortunately, the Android app is not currently on that list, so login attempts are blocked.
It would be great if Mozilla could request approval from Google to authorize the Android app as well. Many of us rely on both Thunderbird and APP, and this limitation makes secure mobile access difficult.
Is this something the team is planning to pursue?
Thanks!

Hi Thunderbird team, currently Thunderbird Desktop is approved for Google’s Advanced Protection Program (APP), but the Android version isn’t, which blocks APP users from accessing Gmail on mobile. Since APP is designed for high-risk users like journalists, activists, and others needing extra security, it would be valuable if Mozilla could request Google’s approval for the Android app as well, ensuring secure mobile access for those who rely on Thunderbird across devices.
