Tab access from the bottom of the phone screen (Firefox Android)

Making moves

For the most part I like Firefox and have been using it for years both on my phone and my PC.

The phone version loves to make new tabs so I, a tab minimalist, find myself closing them very often through the day (why I cannot tab the address bar, tap a shortcut and just navigate there instead of opening up a new tab, no idea, I hate it but learned to live with it).

The latest UI changes, however, have really driven me off of the app because it is becoming extremely difficult to manage tabs.

The latest changes create two tab options, the tab strip (like desktop) and full screen tab switcher.  Both are locked to the top of the phone screen.  With a large phone I now have to do ergonomic gymnastics or go two handed to close a tab.  With how often I need to do this it has broken the experience for me.

Looking at Bugzilla, I wasn't the first to bring this up but the bug was closed because the designers decided they wanted full screen stuff.

Please reconsider this and give some kind of tab management for those who don't hold their phones from the top.

My Suggestion(s)

  1. Allow for the tab strip/address bar to be pinned to the bottom (preferred, I really like this from the Samsung Browser)
  2. When the address bar is on the bottom, pin the tab groups (private/tabs/Sync) and the tabs themselves at the bottom (reverse the order so it looks cohesive).

I really want to keep using the browser but these decisions are making it really hard for my typical usage to be reasonable compared to other options.
