Suggestion for a more user-friendly cookie management system in Firefox

Making moves

Hello Mozilla Team,

I’ve been a loyal Firefox user for so many years and really appreciate the focus on privacy and control over personal data. However, I find that managing cookies is a bit cumbersome at the moment. It’s not very user-friendly to navigate through multiple menus to view or delete cookies.

Therefore, I’d like to suggest an idea that could make cookie management much easier and more transparent: a sidebar for cookies that would be displayed right next to the active webpage. This sidebar could include the following features:

1. Cookie Overview in the Sidebar

  • All cookies from the current website would be immediately visible and listed.
  • A plain-text display of what data is being stored and to whom it’s being sent.
  • An option to filter cookies by origin (first-party/third-party).

2. Manual Deletion Before Submission

  • Users could delete cookies individually or in groups before they transmit data.
  • Warning notifications when cookies attempt to send sensitive information.

3. Automatic Controls & Safeguards

  • Real-time blocking of tracking cookies with just one click.
  • A whitelist for trusted sites that may store cookies.
  • Automatic deletion of session cookies as soon as the browser is closed (optional setting).

I’m convinced that these features would make Firefox even more user-friendly and further strengthen privacy. I hope you’ll consider this suggestion, and I look forward to hearing your feedback.

Best regards,

Holger
