Dear Mozilla Colleagues:
0) I have been using FireFox and ThunderBird ever since their beginnings. I enjoyed the experience and appreciated the efforts that have been put into them.
1) One of the nagging issues with ThunderBird is the constant flood of SPAMs. The current defense mechanism seems just one step short of being truly user-friendly. Below is my simple-minded approach to the problem:
A. Put all incoming MSGs from unknown senders to the SPAM box. (Do this first before spending the resources to characterize whether a MSG is a SPAM or not.)
B. As the receiving party reviews the SPAM box and un-tags an acceptable MSG, move it to the InBox and append the sender to the account owner's directory (acceptable sender list). (The first part is already performing well. It is not clear to me whether the second part works.)
2) I believe that the mechanisms required by the above are mostly already in the current software. It is just a matter of a little touch-up for organizing them in the appropriate priority order to achieve a more user-friendly operation behavior.
