Sorry to contradict you, but I'm grateful to whoever implemented that behavior. I find it extremely helpful and use it quite frequently.
If I click on the address bar text, it's nearly always to copy the entire url in order to paste it somewhere.
The alternative, in Windows anyways, is that you have to click-click-click to select the entire text ... and it's even more complicated than that, because if you don't click at just the right cadence, Windows may interpret it as click-click click, or click click-click.
