Stop fixing stuff that isn't broken, start earning trust and donations

Making moves

Feels like a waste of time to say anything here. Mozilla feedback channels are a hostile environment. Friendly fire? Still hurts. Not even a shoe box labeled "Donations", but that's where I wanted to file this, as in "Why not?" (My actual attitude towards donating towards Mozilla is rather stronger than that question.)

I am NOT a newbie, though the fixation on security frequently forces me to recreate my identity. I see that this identity has existed for a few months, though the problem I reported there goes back much longer (and continues today). The specific problem I commented on a few months ago is a Linux-version memory leak that makes Firefox unusable in real life. At any time Firefox may run out of memory and crash, destroying whatever was in progress in the browser. Obviously not a transient or minor problem, but robust to many "upgrades" since then. I think the security fixation is also making for the hostile and uncommunicative atmosphere and the lack of any help, even helpful advice, via this tedious and annoying website. I do NOT feel "connected" to Mozilla here, but rather like I've been thrown into (another) black hole to stifle complaints.

But I'm going to comment at a higher level. Why don't I donate? I have a simple answer, and I bet you Mozilla people are going to hate it. If there are any other readers struggling in this environment, then I wonder if they understand it. The answer is actually in the form of a question when I see new features in new versions: "Would I have donated money to implement that feature?" The answer is almost always "No" (or stronger), and the obvious conclusion is that if I did donate money to Mozilla, then it would be used to implement other features I do not want. Too much cruft and too little stability. The sad difference is Mozilla has no profit as a result?

I could go into LOTS of details about a possible alternative funding approach. Or I'd be glad to hear of a better idea than the CSB (Charity Share Brokerage) approach. But right now I'm already tired and will just conclude that it is sad I am still using Firefox only because of inertia and because the alternative browsers are too focused on profits (even when they are socially harmful). Looking forward to a constructive response--but not holding my breath. I'm actually dreading the idea of trying to log into this website next time. What new security hassles shall I encounter?
