I´ve used Firefox for almost 2 decades, but lately high CPU usage while having bad performance and bad batterylife is becoming insane. I´m using Lenovo T450s, X270 and X1 Nano. All machines are constantly blowing hot air when just watching a fullhd youtube video. But even on normal browsing it´s so slow and so hot at the same time. Chrome is a gamechanger by now.
Example youtube vp9 fullhd 30fps video on the T450s (Intel Broadwell): On chrome it´s using 11W on battery while on Firefox it´s using 19W, the video is stuttering and the machine is cooking. H264 makes it even worse and newer machines also use way more CPU on FF than on chrome and performance is worse. Not that much, but still. I´ve tried different version, ended up on nightly. It all doesn´t make any difference.
So whatever you are working on. Stop it immediately and work on those things, because those issues are major. It that won´t change soon, i will switch to chrome. It´s not just a little bit. The difference is massive.
Thank you.
