Please add an option to hide e-mail addresses in Bugzilla

Making moves

Hi,

I recently wanted to report a bug in Bugzilla and was surprised to discover that a reporter’s e-mail address can be seen by other users. As far as I can tell, there is no account setting that allows me to hide my e-mail address while continuing to use Bugzilla normally.

I find this pretty uncomfortable from a privacy perspective. A bug report can remain online for years, and exposing every reporter’s e-mail address makes the address easy to collect and potentially misuse for spam or unwanted contact.

Using Firefox Relay or another alias only partially solves the problem. It hides my real address, but the alias itself is still publicly visible. Disabling the Bugzilla account is not a practical solution if I still want to report or discuss bugs.

It would be great if Bugzilla offered a proper privacy option, for example:

  • Hide the e-mail address from other users.

  • Show only a privacy-safe contact link instead.

  • Allow users to choose whether their address is visible to nobody, logged-in users, or everyone.

  • Keep the actual address available only to Bugzilla administrators and for notifications.

Bug reporting should not require users to make their e-mail address publicly discoverable. Could Mozilla consider adding a privacy-friendly option for Bugzilla accounts?

Thanks for reading.
