Whoever implemented to have 'Open previous windows and tabs' to be in useless much 'Startup' is genuinely a moron!!!
I mean, I don't want to open FF on device bootup. THAT USES UNWANTED RESOURCE FOR THE DEVICE!!!!
NOW, I have to content with FORCEFULLY starting FF even if I removed checkmarked for 'Open Firefox automatically when your computer starts up' unchecked? ARE YOU A MORON CODERS?
You sure want us unckeck both and loose tabs???
SURE, I WANT 'Open previous windows and tabs' BUT NOT AS **bleep** STARTUP!!!!
Solved! Go to Solution.

I tried putting checkmarks and close it and uncheck it and close it. Now, it stopped starting with the device.
I guess the patch to latest edition made it corrupt and it doesn't start with the device now, after re-applying the settings.

Hello... help me understand what's happening to you. You should be able to decide whether "Open previous windows and tabs" and "Open Firefox automatically when your computer starts up" are enabled completely independently of each other. One shouldn't affect the other. Are you seeing otherwise?

The issue still persist on and off at times.
I don't want a FF start with the device as shown from the screendump below.
Also I have that you now combine "Page loading" with "Stop loading" that doesn't show at times too. I mean it has become more "NOT SO CONVENIENT" to use.

Since everyone seems to be a bit confused by JBER2024, his problem is he has "Open FF automatically on startup" not checked and FF still sometimes starts on startup it seems.
Came here cause I searched why FF now automatically is in autostart on new install (already installed one gave me a popup asking me to add FF to autostart today; @JBER2024 maybe you accidentally clicked on a popup an re-added it to autostart?)
Also pretty annoyed by it and not really sure who would want to have a cluttered desktop right on startup, but no problem for me after removing FF from autostart in the taskmanager on the new installation (haven't touched or looked at the checkbox in FF itself)

Unfortunately, when they are bundled like that as settings, I think it will occasionally happen that it starts with the device on startup. So, yes, I haven't touched it as made in screendump. I just wish, that this was as separate settings to be not included in "Startup" setting as screendump illustrates. It's convenient enough your prior tabs are there, but not needed in being in "Startup".

Explain away as much you like, but it is both on "Startup" and you explanation is making these setting redundant no matter what. Coding error has been made.

I'm failing to understand the issue.
They are both "Startup" functions, one is related to the Ooperating System (Open Firefox automatically when your computer starts up), and the other is related to when Firefox starts up (Open previous windows and tabs).
They are independantly set.
This is not a coding error.
Unless you can explain the error in more detail?

As you can see on the screendump, I never wanted FF to be a part of startup. Heck, I have it set from device settings to never start.
As it started to start with the device, which I never want out of my device.
IT IS UNWANTED.
It can too be exploited as persistency, nobody wants a persistence FF starting on each device startup.
Heck, it too can be malware-persistence issue in the future.
-Also, page rendering are horrible. Now, you have to wait for period of time before it fully render. Even simplest typing and page scrolling has rendering issues.

Are you saying you have "Open Firefox automatically when your computer starts up" unchecked, but Firefox still starts up when you turn your PC back on?
If so, are you puting your PC into sleep, hibernation, or full shutdown?
If you're putting it into Sleep/Hibernation, then the PC normally returns you to whatever programs you had open before Sleep/Hibernation, and as such Firefox is not at fault (providing Firefox was open before you initiated Sleep/Hibernation).
If, however, you are shutting the PC down, and have "Open Firefox automatically when your computer starts up" unchecked, but it is opening automatically after startup, then you should submit more information confirming whether you have Firefox.exe in your user or device startup folder.

The state doesn't matter. But yes, the device was shutdown and closed FF prior shutting down the device. But occasionally annoyingly after startup and login. The first thing you see is useless much todays latest version of FF. It is becoming more annoying to use, with useless combi page loading toolbar icon. Who does that? A moron developer?
The issue still persist on and off at times.
I don't want a FF start with the device as shown from the screendump above. Why are they even group together like that?
Also I have that you now combine "Page loading" with "Stop loading" that doesn't show at times too. I mean it has become more "NOT SO CONVENIENT" to use.

Heck, this come and goes. It's quite annoying.
I mean, I don't want FF to start up with the **bleep** device, just because I have Tabs unclosed or Tab Groups not closed.
FF has really just become a nuisance to use. Also the useless Page state "Page loading" combining it with "Stop loading ESC". The **bleep** "Stop loading" can't be pressed as hardcorded separate icon like the old these to cancel **bleep** page loading. Now, you can try ESC but absolutely does nothing!
14-06-2026 08:21 AM
ESC for interrupting the page loading process still works for me on 151.0.4
What version are you on?
14-06-2026 08:52 AM
Yes, I work for me too, but not always, hence liking more of separation as before.

I'm experiencing the same problem. It started after the latest updates.
14-06-2026 08:53 AM
Let's hope they will change that on future FF versions being fixed not to include it in "Startup".
