No AI in the browser

Please do not add AI in the browser as a core feature. If you want to experiment with various ways to use AI, please do it as an optional feature in the form of an addon or similar. Many people use FFX because it is not Edge or Chrome, and that necessitates sth like AI being optional.

They should give a no frills option to disable all AI for the users that dislike it. After all, Firefox should be about user choice. A better solution than just one on/off switch for AI would be a whole tab in the Settings with a toggle for AI at the top.This way users get more granular control while keeping nice UX.

If it's going to be on then yes, it needs to be a first class option. However, there is NO reason why AI should be on by default.

I am not afraid. Im disgusted by the ethical trashfire of developmentand implementationof theses programs, ecological destruction and heavy association with hate groups like neo-nazis and pedophiles.

I adore technology and there is a place for machine learning. It sure as hell isn't in art, mental health services, or my browser harvesting my data like a grimdark wiretap.

Grow up and realize people who oppose Ai aren't luddites scared of technology. They are adults with genuine concerns about privacy, ethical development and social awareness.

Yes, it's disappointing that FF has shifted to an unethical implementation of AI. Sure, AI can be useful, but the ethical considerations are extremely important. It should have been implemented as an opt in or better yet, as an add on. I am capable of futzing with my config, but I don't have the energy or time to do that. And once I do, people who shouldn't futz with their configs will ask me to help them and blame me, if they get it wrong. I want it to be easy for me and for everyone else who doesn't make a hobby of futzing with the guts of the software they use.

It's shameful enough that this genAI slop was forced into the browser against the wishes of the majority userbase to please a vocal minority, but it's so much worse that it's opt-out -- and on top of that, that the people who don't want it had to go into about:config to disable it, instead of giving us a nice normal settings menu. It's disgusting and it reeks of sleazy desperation on the part of mozilla's out-of-touch leadership. It makes me wonder how much they are being paid by genAI grifters to do this.

I find the whole AI, no matter where, highly disturbing and non-professional from Mozilla. They need to make it easier to completely remove it, which is why it should be an add-on instead. A browser is a browser, keep it that way.

Adding these proprietary chatbots to Firefox conflicts with the Mozilla Manifesto, in particular Principals 2, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 10. It also conflicts with Firefox's marketing of, "Enhance your privacy," and "Privacy built in." It feels like Mozilla has abandoned it's principals by chasing the latest boondoggle. Mozilla should not be pushing AIs like ChatGPT and Copilot on users that are fundamentally at odds with it's purposes.

hell one of the reasons i switched to firefox was because of their reputation of no ai **bleep**, anf now they got the **bleep** fox bouncing on the dicks of brainless ai investors because i guess they lost their spines somewhere in the sewers

I came here to share my disapproval as well, was browsing like normal when a massive pop-up randomly appeared giving me an AI summary of a link (wtf???) Why would I want this? Why would anyone want this? I went deep into my settings and turned off every single AI option I could find (they were all on by default btw) I'm beyond disappointed. Will be heavily considering alternative browsers if they ever pull something like this again. I'd prefer that AI was removed completely from my browser, but I guess the money they could earn from stuffing unnecessary AI bloat into firefox was too enticing?

There's not an insignificant portion of the userbase who switched to firefox specifically to get away from Chromium. Why should the one browser built on different tools evolve to be the exact same thing? You seriously think you're going to get more customers by ignoring your own niche to chase a trend?

If it's an optional extension, everybody wins. There is literally no reason to incinerate all the goodwill you get from BOTH parties by making it not default.

I wholeheartedly agree! I've been using Firefox for almost 20 years now, and this is the first time I've *ever* felt that it wasn't the browser I needed. Even in the era where there was some slowness, I knew with confidence that my browsing experience was good. Now though, I'm filled with doubts about Mozilla's commitment to privacy. Even if, and it's a very shaky if, all AI features are implemented as 100% optional, I cannot trust that they will remain so in perpetuity. Corporate greed knows no bounds, and all it takes is one delusional C-Suite suit to ruin decades of carefully built trust. At this point the genie is out of the bottle; only an apology with a promise to never implement any AI integration can offer the chance of rebuilding trust (not a guarentee, but a chance). But I can't imagine that happening, as MBAs are allergic to accountability and human decency. It's been nice Firefox, but it might be time for us to stop seeing each other.

I'd like to make myself very clear to Mozilla here. 
You are playing with fire. You know other browsers are already doing this, Your Firefox browser is for those who DON'T want those browsers that waste their time and steal their data. It's for the users who wish they could have some actual privacy, no bloat, and certainly not AI. Yet, you constantly work against this for some reason?

Why do you always try adding new useless things, trying to chase the next 'trend', when all your users ever wanted, was for YouTube to stop stuttering just by scrolling through their feed. Please, work on Firefox, make it the browser everyone needs, not just another Opera/Chrome clone filled with AI and even more slow-downs. You are trying to destroy yourself for short-term interests that will lead you nowhere.
