New UI on Android is awful, PLEASE give us an option to PERMANENTLY revert it.

BlueSnivyian

Recently got the newest update forced on my android device, and I'm learning that this new UI is being FORCED now???

I specifically disabled the new UI on android because it was clunky, bloated, cluttered, annoying to deal with, and just generally SLOWER in every regard. Everything was easily accessible before this new UI, and now not only are the menus scattered making it awful to navigate with just my thumb, it takes several clicks to get to the same options that only took one before. I was happy using the old UI and shouldn't be forced into the new one for no good reason.

PLEASE add a option to PERMANENTLY disable this new UI and revert to the old one, high chance that I will NOT be using Firefox on my android once I find a replacement unless said option is added.

Agreed, thier UI is steadily getting worse, and has been for years.

Unfortunately it didn't look like they take feedback on it seriously. I have never seen these awful changes reverted.

I'm assuming all their UI designers use bottom bar and always have two hands on the phone.

Honestly I've just downgraded to version 148 at this point. I cannot even fathom how any real human being sees this utter DISASTER of a UI as being "better" than what was already in place.

Genuinely hoping that the people behind the new UI get fired after seeing how many people dislike and leave, as if THAT'S the ideas they have? they shouldn't be allowed to work on anything.

If they don't implement a toggle for the old UI though, I guess it's time to go browser shopping again…

Agreed, I'm staying on 148.0.2 until a permanent solution is offered.

There will be no permanent solution, as history with snowflakes at mozilla has shown us again and again. 😞

fork Iceraven is great and have no telemetry and firefox with the crappy and unwanted bad ui redesign, no stinks i will not use it.

They say you will like it you will like it, i say go sit your but on a camp fire and you will like it you will like it.

I’m dealing with the same problem. The old layout was simple and quick to use, but this new one feels messy and takes more steps to do basic things. It’s frustrating that we’re being forced to use it. It would be great if there was an option to switch back to the old UI.

It's honestly insane, cause they DID have an option to disable it (presumably because they knew people would hate it,) and yet now forced it on everyone. It's genuinely mind boggling how they made such a terrible decision…

Posting here to agree. I despise the new UI and had reverted the changes via the secret menu, but update 149 no longer has that option. The UI changes have made the 3 dot menu impossible to use one handed. Page back and forward require the use of both hands because it's on the opposite side of the screen from the menu open button. Open in app is now hidden below a button called 'more'. Previously history, bookmarks, passwords would all be within easy reach just under where you clicked to open the menu, and now all are at the bottom and hurt to reach frequently. Navigating the new UI is causing my hand and wrist to cramp. The whole menu takes up more screen space and is less functional than it was.

Reverted to 148 and detached from Google Play. Everything is impossible to do one handed now.

Just keep complaining everywhere you can, and get as many people as you can in on the complaining. Eventually they're gonna have to acknowledge the amount of people that DO NOT WANT this new UI over the old one.

I made an account just to +1 this.  Whoever made the decision to force this garbage redesign down our throats should be fired.

I thought I could get used to the new tabs list after reverting out of the first update, but the more I use it the worse it gets.  There's so much dead space it takes a million years to scroll, you can't escape the menu and the buttons are in the wrong place and mutate every three seconds like jellyfish.  White borders distract you from the tab content, making it difficult to read through the list.  Giant crosses encourage you to delete tabs, when I have them in a list because I want to visit them.  Just terrible graphic design, completely unfit for purpose.  Awful.

Restore the interface options on secret menu! Listen to the users!

Yep. New layout is garbage. If there isn's a way to fix it I'm dropping firefox.

The absolute worst part of this change for me is that after clicking the 3 dot menu at the top right corner of the screen, the Bookmarks button is now at the bottom of the screen instead of right next to the dots.

This massively increases the amount of finger movement needed to go from the new tab page to the list of bookmarks, which is by far my most common method of browsing.

Recent UI changes brought the app in line with Fisherprice standards: giant buttons for everything that cover the entire screen, blue notification dots telling you that you downloaded something. Really, I downloaded an image just now? I'm soo great full for the notification to tell me! As if I wasn't the one who initiated it less than five seconds ago. Quit treating your user base like we have the mental capacity of an infant. Bring back the old UI! Fire whoever thought this was a good idea!

The inability to manage tabs one-handed on my large phone was PRECISELY the reason I switched from Chrome to Firefox in the first place.  And now you all have gone and made the same foolish mistake.  I'd expect this kind of behavior out of Google who insists on forcing whatever ill-advised changes they want on people, but I expected better from Mozilla.  Apparently you all couldn't care less about your users either.  I'm sick of this.  I'm sick of app UI designers who change things for the sake of changing them.  I'm sick of them not doing sufficient usability testing.  This WILL be the reason I leave Firefox too.  My search for another browser starts today.  I only hope this kind of incompetence hasn't infected the entire ecosystem.

This new interface is awful, and the tab system has changed too. I think it's great to have new customization options in apps, but first there should be a choice between the old and the new.

I'm going to add on about the new tab tray too, I preferred the old one since it only showed on the bottom half of the screen, making one hand use easier. But now the new tab tray UI fills the entire screen, even though the tab previews are larger, I can't properly reach the top tabs with my thumb. I would prefer it if there was a one handed mode for the tab tray to limit it to the bottom half of the screen again like the previous version.

Not being able to quickly refresh a page because the refresh button is now at the bottom of the screen was a terrible choice. All flash but no usability. The new UI is one of the worst I've seen. The new tabs layout is also garbage. Why are they fixing what isn't broken??

It HAS to have been some snowflake that went "people don't like my UI design and won't use it 🥺 I'll just force it on them until they like it!" But we won't like it, no matter how much they shove it down our throats.

As long as we keep being noisy about it, eventually they'll have to acknowledge people don't want this awful new UI. Just keep spreading the feedback site to everyone you can to get as many people complaining as possible until this is fixed.

If this thread, or any of the others complaining about it gets big enough for long enough they can't just ignore it, especially with the weekly recap on the biggest threads here.

I agree with this 100% I also hate the new user interface. Everything is harder to access, no one likes it and everyone wants a way to permanently revert to old UI. I have got rid of this four times now and I do not like it it's on one of my mobiles and not the other which is also ridiculous. All this is in reference to the new user interface for Firefox mobile Android. As it is now if it stay this way you can plan on losing me and thousands of other users. You have made a friendly browser interface into and unfriendly one that is hard to use and most people absolutely hate!

Yeah I hate this **bleep** and it's going to make me switch browsers if I can't revert.

I just went through all the headaches reverting to the previous upgrade level, changed to recommended private DNS settings, disabled auto update in play store, which had been already done for all apps but reverted after deleting and reinstalling. Also had to shut off a bunch of studies that had been disabled until Firefox reinstalled then it turned them on and gave me a ton of studies without my permission ever being asked for, same with nimbus studies and had to turn all the related secret settings off again. Hopefully that will keep it gone as long as I do forget and accidentally update Firefox.

Mozilla will cease to exist soon, so they're forcing these pointless updates with aggressive concepts to drive people away. That's the point.

Sad days on the horizon, missing firefox ver.67 just like on p.c it was perfect, now is like a gta game on game boy advance, just the name push start and is bad not even a real game.

I'm going to add what I said in response to another post

The previous iteration of the tab viewer in list view mode only took up part of the screen with the ability to swipe it down to dismiss it and be able to see part of the web page you were on. In my view that was *vastly* superior to what they replaced it with, which feels like a whole other app that's showing me what sites I have open.

I also want to add this to the conversation.

A friend of mine only has his right hand. He was thrilled that we found Firefox mobile a few years back when chrome got rid of the tabs list view. That on top of a few other things made Firefox his new browser instantly due to everything being accessible with his right hand. With this new update that's all gone. There's no options to get any of the things that made Firefox so simple and easy for him to navigate with his single hand. So now he's looking for something else to use. Some that will most likely not work for him as easily and seamlessly. I'm looking as well, for me it's because I can't stand the new UI in the least. It's yet another company that doesn't think about how some people use their app and just says "You'll use it this way now and be happy about it"

I just made a post on the weekly recap about this too but this UI change is really unwelcome and if they dont re-enable the toggle that was already available in the secret settings to go back to the old view, I think i'll have to find a new browser to use on my phone.

nellieblue

I understand entirely and even though I reverted to the previous one you gotta go through a lot of work to do all that and set up things to so it don't come back and then you have to remember not to accidentally upgrade Firefox and sooner or later the old level will become incompatible with too many other things I suppose so we'll still be up a Creek I'd like everyone else I want the old way back permanently This one is not productive at all a lot more clicking involved hard to find things you shouldn't have to do searches to find commonly used things with this thing messes them all up

They are now having 1 Star reviews on the Play Store either hidden, or completely deleted, as I have seen multiple reviews calling out the terrible UI change disappear for seemingly no reason.

Whichever snowflake forced this UI change on everyone is NOT happy that people are calling their UI awful. This doesn't change how many people are calling it out however. Keep complaining until they are FORCED to listen.

That's not surprising considering Firefox/Mozilla gets a large amount of it's revenue from Google, Google Search, etc, ties to Google AI and chromnium..... At least that's what I read earlier today somewhere.... .

I will also be looking for a new browser if they don't add an option to toggle the tab UI changes off. I hate all the padding, it just wastes valuable screen real estate and makes it take forever to scroll through my tabs

So far I've tried Brave, Vivaldi, Duckduckgo and Opera GX.

DDG is the only one with a similar list view for tabs but I don't think you can switch search engines

Vivaldi and Brave have card grid views for their tabs, which I **bleep**ing *hate* but they have some other QoL stuff that's nice

Opera GX has a tab viewer that's a bit like cycling through a deck of cards. It's not terrible, just different then I've seen before. However it also only has what search engines are built in as far as I'm aware. It's has some neat bells and whistles though.

I'm still making up my mind, but these are the ones I'm cycling through at the moment, and I highly recommend others look into actually switching too so theres more people leaving Firefox behind and maybe they'll reconsider that abomination of an update.

Might use DDG then. Was thinking about Brave, but if DDG has a similar UI to the old one in FF I will probably use that instead.

Opera GX is just off the table for me, for numerous reasons.

(Fennec v1.48.0) I reinstalled again, but is faster than Firefox beta for me, and search already comes populated and you can chose to hide YouTube or Reddit as an example. Opera didn't like the downloads some times work others don't start, Vivaldi is so bloated good no, the same Brave is just korki, bromite is just google with less telemetry, disappointed with Firefox, I have DDG in the background cuting telemetry system wide like a virtual network, but using DDG as browser hum no is not Firefox, so to me is sad days ahead.

Iceraven is secure with no telemetry and no bad forced ui enchancements, just hope dosent turn in to sheep like others forks and go baa ui redesign

The fact that not ONE employee has replied to this, or any other thread calling out their terrible UI changes is absurd.

I'm giving them until the new version release on android, if a toggle is not given I WILL be switching browsers permanently. Not gonna use something made by dumbasses that won't ever listen to their users and just change things for no reason to meet whatever stupid quota they have to.

JMAC1978

In the begining they responded me saying, from ver.149 forward it will be the new ui and keep using it and you will like it, that's why i made that comment (you will like it you will like it) cant find the link any more (-_-)

Genuinely disgusting behavior if so. If true that also basically confirms that this forced change was done by a cry baby in the UI department that only forced it because they were upset people didn't wanna use their awful new UI.

Whoever designed it and decided that the old one should be removed needs to be fired and barred from any work in the industry ever again.
