iOS Firefox icon change in most recent update?

Safetymonkey

Just looking for information about how to change the background color of the icon that the developers apparently decided to change on a whim with no way that I can find in the app to revert the change? It just stands out like a sore thumb on my Home Screen bar at the bottom. I know this may not feel like a major change but going from a darker muted palette to bright white stands out immediately, and I don’t like it. The Reddit app does allow you to change the icon for that app. Any plans to allow the same for Firefox on iPhone?

Hi! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. The icon update was made to ensure consistency and improve adaptability across different system themes, especially after iOS 18.

In the next release, Fx 136, we’ve fixed a minor issue with tinted mode, where only the white icon was displaying. Also, I understand that some users prefer the previous look, and we’re actively listening to all the feedback we’ve received. To address this, we’ll be introducing a new feature soon that lets you choose your icon. We're aiming to have this in 136.1. I will keep you posted.

Please keep sharing your thoughts!
Thanks

I thought this as well and complained about it here but have since discovered that, at least in my case, this was a settings issue: go to your iPhone home screen and swipe the icons to the right so they’re totally out of the way and you have the blank and blurred homepage screen (that you might wish you could unblur, but that’s a separate complaint to Apple). Press and hold anywhere on the screen and you should see the word ‘Edit’ appear on top left… press it and then choose the size of your icons and the level of brightness. I have chosen “automatic” for brightness but either automatic or dark seems to do the trick. Turns out the Firefox icon is just the most variable through these settings. Hopefully this helps other people.

Seriously, why randomly make these kinds of unilateral decisions for all users with no announcement or recourse. Feels forced and unnecessary. Why would I want a white icon background if I’m using dark mode on literally everything else?

Agreed! It is bad enough that having never used this platform/website before I felt the need to create an account and come post this thats how mind boggling this decision is.

No kidding… I like dark mode for everything and this thing is like a flashlight now

Here here! I don’t like the change and I don’t like that I cannot change it.

It’s maddening, I am so with you. Just give us the option to use either! Seriously considering switching to duckduckgo’s browser as my default, since it has an icon option with a dark background.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. My goal was to at least get developers to consider inverting the color scheme of the icon or using a dark/light icon according to my choice in app or go by my system theme. Thanks again for taking the time to reply and update me! It’s greatly appreciated.

Please bring back the purple!

I love telling people I use Firefox. Not only because I believe in it as a browser, but also because I truly think it’s a more aesthetically pleasing experience than other web browsers. I would show people the app and they would agree that it looks modern, sleek, and polished.

As soon as I updated and saw the white background, my thoughts immediately changed! I know it’s ridiculous - nothing else has visually changed about the app - but being greeted with the out of place white right off the bat completely changes my perception.

I would love to have the option to revert to the more colorful design!

The purple icon should be coming back soon.

How bizarre! I think this is great of course to have so many options but it’s still so odd that it changed just from a software update especially when my iPhone 15 Pro is still set to have a dark appearance. My icons are apparently set to the light appearance? You’d imagine changing the system theme would update everything but apparently Apple engineers did not think of that lmao.
