Hey everyone!

My name is Justin, and I’m part of the team working on Tab Groups for Firefox on Android. We’re excited to start getting this feature into your hands and would love your help shaping it before a wider release.

What are Tab Groups?
Tab Groups help you organize your open tabs into named groups, making it easier to stay focused and switch between different tasks. Whether you're planning a trip, researching a topic, or juggling work and personal browsing, Tab Groups keep related tabs together and easy to find.

Try it now in Firefox Nightly!
An early version of Tab Groups is available by default in Firefox Nightly with limited functionality, and we’d love for you to test it out and share your thoughts.

How to create a tab group:

  • Open the tab tray

  • Select a tab

  • Tap the overflow menu (top-right)

  • Tap “Add to group”

  • Name your group and assign a color

  • Press Save

What’s coming next
We’re actively working on improvements, including support for drag-and-drop to create tab groups - making the experience faster and more intuitive. We're also finalizing the new Tab Groups page in the tab tray where you will have a dedicated space for all your groups.

Share your feedback
Your input is incredibly valuable at this stage. Please share your feedback, ideas, and any issues you encounter in this thread so we can continue improving the experience.

Thanks for helping us build a better Firefox for Android - we can’t wait to hear what you think!

There must be an option:
"Open in new tab in group"

Otherwise the usability for me is still very low... I open a site and then several subsites in the same group - dragging all the tabs manually is so time consuming..

When i open a Link in a new Tab on Desktop, it’s in the same Tab Group.

For me, “Open Link in new Tab in same Group” shouldn’t be an added Button in Firefox for Android. It should just be how Links open in new Tabs.

Mozilla probably didn’t do this yet because there’s no easy Way to remove Tabs from Groups in Firefox for Android. I wish they add that soon.

Not really a button - I meant an option in the context menu if you press and hold on the link - this is what I am used to from Brave for Android. You can choose "open in new tab" or "open in new tab in group", so you can choose whatever you want.

Your suggestion is definitely better for me than the current state, but not as flexible.

What do you mean? There is the cross in the corner of each tab?
What I miss is just scrolling / looking through the tabs in a group - not always jumping out to all the tabs and groups and then going back in to the selected group etc... Like... just bloody copy it from others 😄

Ah, i see what you mean now.

I agree that the Tabs List should open to the current Tab Group by Default, not always to all Tabs. I just thought it’s too obvious to comment (but i was wrong).

I don’t see myself using “Open Link in new Tab” (outside the current Tab Group) a lot when all Features to organize Tab Groups are implemented, so i suggested just tweaking the Behavior of that Button. And i did mean the Button in the Context Menu.

But now i can imagine how having both Options is useful to many, so i got convinced that it’s the better Design.

is this feature also coming to iOS?

I totally understand why some people find this helpful. But for me it's just cluttering the UI without a way to disable it.

At least I could not find one, is there already a way?

If not, I'd suggest to add a simple toggle "Enable Tab Groups" to the settings.

The Internet is becoming more important every Day, so advanced Features to organize Tabs, like Tab Groups, are super important for many People including me.

Most People would not be annoyed by Tab Groups, so a toggle to disable them is better.

To avoid Data Loss, a User should only be able to disable Tab Groups if they have no Tab Groups.

Please add the Abilities to rearrange Tabs in Tab Groups, the same as i can Tabs outside Tab Groups, soon.

And later i wanna see Tab Groups of other Devices in the Sync Interface, but that can wait.

What if every Tab Group Color had a different Texture so that it’s easier to differentiate them?.

This Picture is actually a Concept for a Desktop Environment in a Videogame, so adapting it to Firefox Tab Groups obviously needs Design Changes.

I just think the Idea of coloring Tab Groups in a similar Fashion is good.

Hello, I just got the tab groups update.

Two major issues I noticed from the start.

One: it's not intuitive. When I tap the tab button on top, it takes me out of the group and into all the main tabs. I have to tap back into the group to go through it. There should be an easy button or switch you can toggle so when you leave a tab in the group, you automatically end up in the group itself, not have to go back into the group.

Two: the "open link in new tab" button should work to keep things in the group. New links should automatically open in the group. I dont like opening a bunch of tabs and then having to drag them all back into the group. Generally if someone is directly opening a tab, it means it's related, and belongs in the group. Also, if tapping a link results in a new tab opening automatically, it should also go in the group, not get punted out. I'm currently using a translation site for webnovels and theres a button to translate a novel that automatically opens a new tab for the translation software to run. It keeps kicking it out of the tab group and makes a huge mess.

These are the two glaring issues I've found in the 24 hours or so of using tab groups. May have more complaints later.

I have the Opposite Issue:
I can put Tabs into Groups but not out.

Right now, Tabs don’t open in the same Group on Purpose because there’s no Way to move them out of the Tab Group yet.

Once there’s the expected Ways to move Tabs out of Groups — either to drag them out, and to select them and choose “Ungroup Tabs” — i’m sure the expected Behavior of opening new Tabs in the same Group will be added soon after.

The “Close” Option for Tab Groups should be renamed to “Stash”
because it’s different from closing a Tab.

Closing a Tab pretty much deletes it
but a closed Tab Group is still in the “Tab Groups” Tab of the Tab Chooser.

It just makes more Sense from a Language Standpoint:
Closing a Tab Group sounds like the same Action as deleting it
but stashing a Tab Group is clearly different.

Hi, thanks a lot for bringing Tab Groups to our lifes! 💗🫂

Is there any way to see the tabs inside a group as a list (instead of the bigger previews)?

Thanks a lot in advance, everybody!

Kind regards. 🫶🏽
