running macOS 10.14.6
version that came up was similar to 115.29.0esr (64-bit) (I just updated it before writing this query, I believe that the version that mysteriously returned was something like 112.xx.x esr but I am not sure. I don't know what version of FF I was running before but I generally update when prompted.
Perhaps I am being paranoid, but I just want to make sure that I have a safe version of Firefox installed. As Firefox is open source, I am just considering the possibility that someone could design a version of Firefox with a virus in it which has now "appeared" on my computer. Is this possible? Should I be concerned? If not, why did Firefox disappear and return?
I did get instructions to replace certain files to get it back up and running, but I started using a new computer and never got around to installing them.
