Firefox Update request - is this a scam?

Firefox is telling me it is up to date, but I just got an email from mozilla@email.mozilla.org saying

Don’t stop the sync.
Upgrade your Firefox before March 31st.
Hello,

You are receiving this email because you are using an older version of Firefox that will no longer support syncing or signing in to your account on Firefox after March 31, 2024.

Instructions follow. Is this a scam?

Cheers

Les

Looks phishy, the address returns a 404 error and the IP it relates to is interesting.

Delete that email asap.

Thanks Mizar.

Sender most likely is legitimate (domain at least is), everything depends on content of that mail and whether instructions point to *.mozilla.org / *.firefox.com.

I assume that mail relates to some old entry under your connected devices which you can check under https://accounts.firefox.com/

Hi Les, are you running an older version of MacOS such as 10.9, 10.10 or 10.11? The last version of Firefox for those MacOS versions is the Extended Support Release (ESR) of Firefox 78.

Firefox 78 ESR is going to continue to work after this month except for one thing: after an upcoming change on the back end, it will no longer be able to connect to the Sync service. If you depend on Sync to share your bookmarks, history, and settings with other installations of Firefox (desktop or mobile), this is a problem for you, but if you don't, then your browsing experience will not be affected.

If you are able to update to a newer version of MacOS, then you could update to a newer version of Firefox that will be compatible with Sync. I understand that not all Macs can run a new MacOS so this isn't practical for everyone.
