Feedback welcome for New Tab widgets, now available via Firefox Labs

Update as of December 8 - we are un-pausing this feature in Firefox Labs, as we've resolved an issue where Lists were disappearing. It's important they persist!

Hi! I’m Amber from the Firefox team.

We’re testing a new idea: simple, built-in productivity widgets on your New Tab page. They’ll be there on every new tab to keep you on-task, or on a break. (Previously available in Nightly & Beta, they are now available in Firefox Labs in Release!)

This early experiment includes:
Lists - jot down your reminders, errands, or priorities for your browsing activities
Focus Timer - track your study session, deep work research, or quiet break time

And everything stays local, is never shared with Mozilla, and it’s easy to turn on and off.

Feedback is welcome to inform our next steps! Would you like to see more widgets? Which ones? Notes, Quotes, fun ones or helpful ones? Sync for optional backup? Drop your thoughts below.

Hi! I'd like to see:
1. Lists as separate widgets in addition to the current implementation
2. Multiple timers as separate widgets in addition to the current implementation
3. Widget hooks, such as opening/closing a tab after a timer expires
4. Customizable timer notifications, so you can specify your own notification text
5. The ability to drag and drop widgets when using multiple widgets

The input field for tasks has only one short line, so, when I write something long, everything except the end fitting on the line is hidden. I suggest that the input field would expand in height to accomodate the full text of the task.

Hi,

Nice feature!! Can you add it to the mobile version?

Yeah, that'd be great. I really like the feature!

I would need this to support CalDAV to use it at all.  Specifically to sync to an existing CalDAV server.

The timer doesn't work on Mac. It counts down just fine, but there's no sound or notification of any kind when it expires.

Love this idea, it's great to have a homepage that is useful and isn't full of adds an clickbait news

could it to be accessible on mobile as well so i can tick of items even when away from my pc

I also would love a way to display multiple lists at the same time, and resize the widgets so that i can see all items of a larger list.

I know i can use separate app or website for this (like google keep notes) but it would be more convenient here and definitely more private than google.

Keep up the good work though, you guys are doing great 🙂

Regarding the TaskList Widget:

I find this Widget very convenient and hence very useful:

1.  This widget should be an optional sync item so that it carries over to different devices.

2.  This widget appears alongside the Focus Timer widget, which I never use.  Unfortunately the Notes List is only one-half of its potential window size, which makes long note items more difficult to read.  Please provide an option to remove the Focus Timer.

3. Items 1 & 2 above are most urgent and easily implemented.  After those are addressed, I like to see the List Item capability expanded:

3a.  Allow the items to be sorted alphanumerically.

3b.  Allow each item to have sub items:  a, b, c and so on.

3c.  Provide the Notes List Widget window to be expanded (keeping the font size the same).

3d.  Allow the user to had hyperlink urls using the typical ^K method (title w. underlying url)

Typo Correction:  The Tasklist widget == "Notes List" widget.

I accidentally hid these widgets and now when I turn them on in the settings they still don't appear.

Is the timer supposed to have some sort of alarm sound play when it's finished? if so that isn't working for me (on a Mac). If not, would love to have that feature implemented.

It might be helpful to have the timer displayed consistently in the browser somewhere, or have it pop out like a video and on whatever tab the user is viewing. Different alarm tones to choose from could also be cool.

thank you for your time

I can see the plugin in my Android Firefox but I don't know how to see the list inside... How can I see this widget inside firefox mobile?

Great feature, but it looks very distracting on the homepage. Please add an option to show/hide this widget on the homepage (one tap show/hide).

Also timer notifications doesnt work.

Hello,
It’s a great idea to add this list to the New Tab page.
With two or three tasks, it works perfectly fine as it is.
I have a lot more, though, so the display is too limited.
It would be good if the list could be displayed on the right-hand side, stretching the full height of the page, with an optional adjustable width.
A button to close the list and a setting to choose whether you want the list to always be fully open on every new tab.

Are there future plans to allow addons to register their own widgets? I'd like to see addons like https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/besttimetracker be able to integrate into the new tab, although I'm not sure if you can have sandboxed iframes from addons in about:newtab.

Also +1 for RSS feed and focus music/ambiance with the pomodoro, à la Windows and chromeOS. Another +1 for being able to see the pomodoro somewhere other than about:newtab, maybe on the navigation bar.

Amazing feature! thank you all 🙂

In the last update, you shifted the widget icons to the left. Please return them to the center!!
