To the Firefox Development Team,
I am writing to share feedback about the PDF annotation feature in Firefox, which I use frequently and generally find very convenient. Being able to write directly on PDFs and insert images without needing a separate application is a feature I really appreciate.
However, I have encountered two recurring issues that significantly affect my workflow:
1. Performance and Lag Leading to Data Loss
The annotation tool frequently becomes sluggish and unresponsive, especially after adding several text boxes or images to a document. In multiple cases, this lag has prevented me from saving the file in time, resulting in the loss of newly added annotations. This is particularly frustrating when working on longer or more detailed documents, as I have to redo the same edits multiple times.
2. Garbled Text When Adding Annotations
When I insert text into a PDF, the characters often render incorrectly or become garbled, rather than displaying the text I actually typed. This makes the annotation unusable and forces me to delete and retry, which is time-consuming and unreliable.
I would appreciate it if the team could look into these issues, particularly:
- Improving the stability and responsiveness of the PDF editor during extended editing sessions
- Adding more robust autosave or recovery mechanisms to prevent data loss during lag
- Fixing the text encoding/rendering problem when typing directly into PDFs
