I have recently been forced to update to the new UI and I have some feedback.
Overall my experience has been bad and I am considering alternate browsers.
The new dropdown menu has several problems
1. Unnecessary animation, which delays menu opening.
2. The positioning is such that the menu can no longer be navigated with one hand, which is both a nuisence and an accessibility issue.
3. The available options seem to have been reduced and/or hidden which reduces usability by increasing actions required for these options.
4. The tab menu is poorly thought out. The tab controls are on the opposite side of the screen from the tab control icon, and are located in such a way that you need to change how you hold your phone once you access the menu. This is a usability problem.
The animation is distracting and the use of screen realestate is inefficient compared to a more compact list.
On the whole my experience has been poor and given the time I spend using my phone's browser I am strongly considering alternatives. Having used this UI for a bit, I do not expect my opinion to change.
I do not understand the design choices made. The old UI had several issues, but this appears to be a step in the wrong direction.
