Setting Desktop Mode as the default in the latest Android update without asking or telling the user was a bad decision.
I was confused why websites suddenly looked awful (my device isn't particularly large). Even worse, it actually broke some sites. The main thing I use Firefox for is browsing xcancel (which removes tracking from twitter), and using Desktop Mode triggers their anti-bot tech, blocking you from viewing the site.
Luckily after a few hours I noticed Desktop Mode was on and switched it off, slowly and annoyingly for every single tab. Only then did I find the announcement in What's New (who reads that?), and after a while found the option to turn it off by default buried deep in Settings.
If a feature is going to fundamentally change how Firefox works it should be opt in, or at least announced with a popup.
