Hello all
I am working with Portable Apps Implementation of TB 3.1.20 since 2011.
I had never the need to update since this version worked fluently and without any specific problems.
This holiday week I thought for couriosity to check the advancement of 134 Versions (numbers).
Initially I found information in mozilla/TB help environment indicating that I have to "update" from V3>5>17>24>45>52>60>68>78>91>102 to 137.
After downloading all these versions - move to V5 already did not work especially due to difference of PortableApps Implementation and DesktopVersion and inappropriate update/transfer options neither worked copying profile data to the appropriate paths under %User/AppData.
So I tried to import my Profile directly to V137 Portable Apps ( what could not be reached ) BUT I was successful to move my data to the desktop Version 137.0.2 after the 3rd attempt. 🙂
Problem were the narrow options in the import-formats and the 2GB Limit of the zip-File Import.
Splitting data in more zip-Files worked but without real understanding why and without control if something has been lost. Further hampering problems were move of adress-lists, account information, calendar.
Deleting of *.msf-files was essential *before* zip and transfer to get the mail-texts visible.
* Regretfully I don´t see any advantage in these huge effort for me:
The User Interface is disappointing.
Many add-ons are not working anymore
Many more add-ons availble for later versions are already not applicable anymore in V137
Import functions are not very sophisticated
The high investment in security investments are not applicable for my environment
So in the end all issues mainly concerning the interface I am interested are not available due to not working add-ons due to the intense updates.
added in proof: In the past it has been stated as I remember that development of TB will be stopped with V60/68, since the tool is complete and does not need any further development.
Aside the understanable pressure of strenghtning TB against attacks to protect users and organizations - especially the import/export interface functionality irrespective of what earlier version or source should receive much much more attention as well as keeping the many available add-ons functional.
hth, greetings.
