Annoyance: Volume button on tabs

I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the mute button included on tabs, constantly hitting it by mistake.  Is there any *working* way within the browser settings to turn it off?  I've seen several posts about turning it off but none of them work.

I agree there should be a way to disable this "feature." It completely frustrates me.
