It could be useful to have the possibility of automatically grouping all of the instances of the same website in one single tab;
Clicking on such a tab would open a dropdown menu in which entries are the individual instances of that website;
The browser wouldn't group anything by default; user should toggle this behavior from one of the same-site tabs.
As for UX, two non-trivial cases come into my mind:

quite often i have loads of tabs open, and then it would be helpful to have the option to make tab groups, without needing to bookmark it to be able to put it in a folder. Such a feature exists in safari, you just go to your open tabs and click create tab group. Afterwards, you can put the open tabs you want in that tab group. If firefox had that, upon every feature it has now, it would beat all browsers by a land slide. If you have an iphone or ipad and haven’t experienced safaris tab groups...

Firefox is working on tab groups. However I suggest Firefox implement a slightly better version where the browser suggests to the user to automatically group their tabs when they reach a certain number of opened tabs, say 25. Edge currently has a feature called organize tabs that does something similar, but it's a button, and the action has to be triggered manually. I'm personally a heavy tab user but have always wondered why there is almost no support for tab grouping or customization in the native tab bar in Firefox.
I think making it able to group like Google Chrome does for example or at least giving more access for extensions and add-ons would significantly improve the UI in that regard.

I'm starting a new thread because the other ideas don't seem to be the same as mine. I love Opera's tab grouping feature: when I click on a link in a tab, a group of tabs is automatically created. This allows me to keep all my work well organised and divided up.
