Hi! I’m Amber from the Firefox team. We’re testing a new idea: simple, built-in productivity widgets on your New Tab page. They’ll be there on every new tab to keep you on-task, or on a break. This early experiment includes:
  •  Lists - jot down your reminders, errands, or a packing list
  •  Timer - track your study session, deep work research, or quiet break time
And everything stays local, is never shared with Mozilla, and it’s easy to turn on and off.
    Here's a short demo

Love the tab notes and the To Do list widget! Being able to have formatted lists for tabs that behaved like the tab notes would be amazing. For sites where I only visit to buy things for instance it would be super helpful. I've been using sticky notes or sometimes just a disposable text file to make sure I don't forget to buy some things.

It would be great if the order items are added to the todo list could be changed (so adding something to the bottom, rather than the top). If this was accessible, like through the ... menu, I'd like that. This would be great for when I list my tasks from highest priority to lowest, rather than having to drag them back and forth. I like this feature, it reminds me to spend my time well any time I use my browser.

It would be nice if task lists used the screen space better. Allow me to have multiple lists side by side - there's plenty of space. Allow me to change the width of lists. Move the "+ Add an item" entry next to the drop-down at the top. Thanks!

Hi,

I find the Timer widget super useful! It's right where I need it and helps me integrate healthy breaks in my work. I also like that it's very simplistic with just the essential features. However, maybe it's possible to extend its functionality a bit while still being simplistic. Here are the features I think would make this widget even better:

  • Continue the timer if you close and re-open Firefox. I understand that you cannot send notifications when Firefox is not running, but the timer could continue running if I restart Firefox before the time runs out. This would be helpful if you accidentally close Firefox.
  • Keep track of the number of focus and break sessions completed during a day. It would be nice to see how many hours of focused work I've done already.

Thanks a lot for developing this useful widget!

Edit: I preferred it when the Timer widget was horizontally centered on the New Tab page. Since I updated Firefox, it is aligned to the left, which is fine, but I'd love to have the option to put it back in the center.

This makes me angry. I opened FF and found a widget I did not ask for and do not want. Stop that! I also find that it gathers info and although I can hide the widget, I can't delete it?

Let me know if I *can* delete it, remove the info it gathered, and stop the spying.

I strongly don't appreciate opening my browser to find some random website i didn't authorize using some "widget" i didn't ask for show up in my homepage just because it's "sponsored" and "new and fun" it's not. I especially don't appreciate something that collects information about me, location etc. being added without permission. Even if it doesn't do anything more with said data beyond show the weather.

Something never asked or wanted for Firefox! Surely Firefox will be doomed someday if it continue to adding some useless features that can be done (better) with separate dedicated app.

Mozilla please remember Firefox is a browser which allows user to access websites. it is not a toolbox!

I came to firefox to escape all this ai stuff. I don't want it here.

I also don't like how these widgets know my location. There's no reason why my web browser needs to know where i am. and no, weather is not a sufficient reason. If i need to know the forcast, i'll check the local news. We don't need "productivity tools" that look at everything we do. We need safety. But that doesnt make you guys as much money so i guess i'll see myself out and find a new browser.

I also would appreciate being able to delete the widgets if I don't want them.  I also found it annoying that my carefully curated list of bookmark icons was reduced in size/layout to allow more space for the widgets.  I have enough visual problems as it is.

You can definitely remove the widgets if you don't want them. There are both individual controls on each widget in the context menu (three-dot menu) that say "Hide widget" or there are controls at the Widget overall section. These options are also available in the Customization Panel, which you can access with the pencil icon in the lower right.

Thank you, but I already found how to hide the widget.  It doesn't make the icons any larger or their layout any different.
