Making moves

This morning, 5 Jan 2026, I opened up my firefox browser and the first thing that came up was a new page offering to change my default page.  I tried to simply decline but it walked me through a few steps and the last one was deleting all my information.  I did not realize that it was talking about all my current saved information, so i clicked delete.  Now I do not have any of my bookmarks that i had saved over a very long time.  I checked to see if there was a backup file and there is nothing. It is as if I have a new installation of Firefox.  Is there any way I can recover what I lost?

This just happened to me, so it's a few weeks late, there are a number of ways to tackle this issue, it took me an entire day to resolve. I'm gonna post you a youtube video that may help.  In the end it didn't work for me, but I suggest trying it as it has helped many. In the end for me, I went into the hamburger menu on the top right > help>more troubleshooting information > ( a new window will pop up, scroll down almost to the end and you will see a sections titled  "Places Database", and in that section it will say Integrity and Statistics, next to "Integrity", right beside it to the right it says "Verify Integrity", you can press that and will do a verification.  For me, it indicated that it was corrupt. Shut everything down, restart your computer, and if your lucky, like me, it restored everything.  Hope this helps.

I can't guarantee this fix will work for you but it worked well for me. This is related to the error "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem." ...
