Hi I'm a 'senior' in the UK and order regular medication online through PatientAccess.com . After several years in October this year I was unable to place my order. The page that loaded had only headings. There was no personal information.
This prompted me to contact Patient Access. Their advice was to try another browser. I did, and a crisis was avoided.
Since then I have done my best to discover what the problem with my device was. It was unique to my (Linux) laptop and Firefox. None of the usual remedies like re-installation were effective. Over time I found a few other things had stopped working and that configuration through about:config was not working as I expected. In particular javascript was clearly not working though the settings were all at the default of 'enabled'.
It was while researching this issue I found advice to remove a 'studies' entry. I looked at mine (for the first time) and found about a dozen active 'studies'. I removed them all, and I have unchecked boxes that would enable new ones.
I am now able to access my medication ordering site again, with Firefox and my usual device. A potentially serious problem has been resolved. My wife and I are lucky that at the age of 83 I am sufficiently computer literate to be able to cope with the IT that has become essential to modern life. We use separate devices but she is reliant on me for IT solutions. One day I may not be around. There may be only one device available. Her carer may not know how to manage IT problems.
I think the possible problems resulting from 'studies' should be investigated and be better known.
