Why can't the search box remain centered , as in Chrome, instead of popping up to the top of the screen once you type in something ? It's a visual nuisance and Firefox provides no alternative settings. In fact, this annoying flaw used to be the case with Google in the past, but they corrected it. For now I'm turning to Firefox because of the speed enhancement over Google Chrome.

There is a hidden setting for this. The hard part is discovering its bizarre name. Here's how to switch it:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.
More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. Please keep in mind that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.
(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste handoff and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar preference to switch the value from true (move the cursor to the address bar) to false (keep the cursor in the search bar in the page)
Success?
