Keep Pocket (and Orbit) alive, and enhance them by adding a cloud notebook service similar to Notion. You could also integrate your Orbit AI as a personal assistant within this cloud notebook to answer questions about your notes.

…as official extensions. I for one will not mourn the loss of all the Pocket stuff throughout the UI, but I respect the fact the Mozilla perhaps once thought it could be monetized to keep the company afloat. And I wonder what worse thing will end up on the default new tab page now, in order to recoup that lost revenue.

The appeal, to me, of Orbit was an AI summarizer with a limited scope, controlled by an organization I could trust. Much has been made about the recent alterations to the terms of service, but Mozilla Corp is still run by mostly the same people, and thus still inherently more trustworthy than a typical VC-funded AI company.

Firefox ditching Orbit and opening the floodgates to plug in with existing third-party providers instead is not the same thing, although I guess that's probably where the consumer demand is right now.

It's vital for Mozilla to continue generating revenue in order to survive. By maintaining, enhancing, and merging services like Pocket and Orbit, Mozilla could create a compelling product that is both useful for users and profitable for the organization.

I'd like Mozilla to A/B test a "New Tab" page with all those eyesores removed and replaced with some low-key reminder to donate, which actual donors can switch off.

Run the numbers on that, see what the ROI is. See how many thousands of lines of code can be thrown away, which were only in there before to trick people into clicking on ads.

I'm already a monthly donor. I'd donate even more if it made Firefox a more peaceful piece of software to use, in an age where everything else is clawing at your eyeballs for attention. Orbit was good in that way.
