This issue is commonly related to how browsers handle clipboard permissions or changes in WhatsApp Web's functionality. One possible cause is browser clipboard permissions. To fix this, ensure your browser allows clipboard access. If you're using Chrome, you can check this by going to chrome://settings/content/clipboard and allowing clipboard permissions. Another solution is to try a different browser. If you're currently using Firefox, switching to Chrome or Edge may resolve the issue.
Sometimes, WhatsApp Web updates can also cause changes in how media pasting works. In such cases, try reloading WhatsApp Web using Ctrl + Shift + R to refresh the session. If pasting still doesn't work, consider using the "Save & Upload" method instead. Right-click the image, select "Save Image As", and then manually upload it to WhatsApp Web.

I also want to second that, adding that it happens often to me whenever my Dell laptop (Precision 5490), running Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS comes out from sleep mode at least once in-between 2 shut downs. Copy pasting images just doesn't work anymore and copies blank images.
However, copy pasting it via Chromium, or via Firefox on Messenger, still works. This behaviour is quite annoying and I'm wondering if Mozilla can act on Firefox to address that problem or if it's OS-level and unsolvable... ?
