Hey everyone!

My name is Justin, and I’m part of the team working on Tab Groups for Firefox on Android. We’re excited to start getting this feature into your hands and would love your help shaping it before a wider release.

What are Tab Groups?
Tab Groups help you organize your open tabs into named groups, making it easier to stay focused and switch between different tasks. Whether you're planning a trip, researching a topic, or juggling work and personal browsing, Tab Groups keep related tabs together and easy to find.

Try it now in Firefox Nightly!
An early version of Tab Groups is available by default in Firefox Nightly with limited functionality, and we’d love for you to test it out and share your thoughts.

How to create a tab group:

  • Open the tab tray

  • Select a tab

  • Tap the overflow menu (top-right)

  • Tap “Add to group”

  • Name your group and assign a color

  • Press Save

What’s coming next
We’re actively working on improvements, including support for drag-and-drop to create tab groups - making the experience faster and more intuitive. We're also finalizing the new Tab Groups page in the tab tray where you will have a dedicated space for all your groups.

Share your feedback
Your input is incredibly valuable at this stage. Please share your feedback, ideas, and any issues you encounter in this thread so we can continue improving the experience.

Thanks for helping us build a better Firefox for Android - we can’t wait to hear what you think!

Huge shoutout to the Firefox team for developing and pushing a stable version of Tab Groups to Firefox Stable so quickly! However, I believe there are many improvements to be done. Here are some potential issues I discovered:
- When i close a Tab Group, the Tabs inside are still loaded in memory, unlike Chrome. This means that closing Tab Groups is not freeing up RAM/memory.

Here are some features I suggest adding:

- Add a bottom tab bar when inside a tab that is inside a group like Chrome. This would allow user to quickly switch between tabs inside the same group.

- Add browser.tabs extension api support. I am requesting this as an Extensions developer. I believe I, and others, would be able to add new features involving Tabs and Tab groups using this ability.

- When tapping the tabs button while inside a tab that is inside a tab group, show the current Tab Group instead of the entire tab tray. (I guess this wont be necessary if my first suggestion is implemented)

Cheers!

First off, super excited this is finally coming; this is the last thing keeping me from switching over from Chrome fully. Echoing what others have said, the biggest things missing for me are adding "Open link in tab group" to the context menu and a mechanism to one-tap flip through the tabs in a group.

Glad to hear the excitement and thanks for the feedback. Both of these are on the roadmap and are aiming to have them out in the next 2-3 releases. We hope to win you over from Chrome when we wrap up!

So glad this is finally a thing. There's two main things I feel are missing and are vital for tab groups on mobile.

  • A link menu option to open any new tab in the current group (that can also create a group consisting of the current tab and new link if we are not already in a group)
  • A bar on the bottom or top of the screen wherever we are in a group that contains all tabs in the group for quick switching or closing of tabs

Both of these make groups seamless and easy to use while the current nightly implementation means we'd need to navigate several menus and spend 10-20 seconds whenever we need to do something with groups.

Thanks for the feedback!! We have both of these on the roadmap and are aiming to have them out in the next 2-3 releases. The bottom bar takes a bit longer to implement but the link menu one is doable in the shorter term.

Please add the option to move the horizontal tab bar to the bottom in the mobile version of Firefox🙏
This is very important to me

Really useful to keep my 10927 tabs somewhat organized!

2 features I would like: When in tab group, open new tab in tab group (and allow long press on open new to open outside)

and similar, when in grouped tab, opening the overview should show the respective group, and allow to easily exit to the general tab overview by pulling down/minimizing the group
