When I click the update option, it tries to download it for a few seconds, then fails with "Update Failed. Download the latest version.", but this link doesn't provide the version for Windows 7. Please help!

Unfortunately, clicking on the "Download Firefox ESR 64-bit" button just downloads ESR version 128.4.0. There doesn't seem to be a way to specifically download 115.17.0esr (Windows 7).

My question is what happens to the existing install, as this is a re-install, not an update. Will all settings, configuration, plugins etc. be retained? I assume that all the profile settings that are cloud based will be unaffected.

Interesting. How were you able to find that link? Every time I tried to download a 64-bit ESR version, version 128.4.0 was downloaded. I even tried looking under Legacy browsers.
I thought 115.17.0esr was an update (security patches), as the previous version was 115.16.1esr.

Same for me. Update to 17.0 esr is NOT working. Afraid an install wipes out settings, add-ons, everything else. Since update is screwed whose to say download & install isn't corrupted as well? Silence from Mozilla. But they keep sending the emails begging for donations. ;>((

Not one comment from "Mozilla" & update still broken. Several downloads offered that produce correct files for "INSTALLS". Like me, everyone is afraid of the possible results. No-one reporting having used them with success. Sooooo, based on this could everyone donate $20?
We are all now the redheaded stepchildren of Firefox. And we can live with the results all by our lonesome. Who wants to go first & report back the results? ;>))

Thanks for being the 1st to report positive results. You say no problems then I am assuming entire profile with favs, PWs, schemes & add-ons was preserved? Does the file type matter? Exe or msi? I like to let the system do it so I will use the msi file.
I am wondering if Moz's last minute decision to extend security updates for 115 esr resulted in someone forgetting to change the kill date on the auto update feature? Guess we will never know. The truth is the last thing to be shared with the masses in this day & age. Too bad. Would save a lot of heartache. Thanks again for the positive get back. ;>)

My W7-Pro/SP1 64-bit on a Lenovo T440p has not had any updates since 2018.
I saved the User-profiles for both Local and Roaming before I applied the .exe.
Did not deed them in the end, everything A-OK.

Good news. I will report back when I use the msi file on my W7-HomePremium/SP1 64bit Acer Aspire 5733Z fully updated (security) as of Oct 2024. I keep my profiles/favs/PWs saved x2. Hoping your experience is my experience. ;>)

SUCCESS... I used Firefox Setup 115.17.0esr.msi as suggested by Boondog. Simply ran it & let it do its thing. I am now updated to 17.0 & all seems fine. Thanks Boondog.

Did you need to use backup User-profiles?
all settings, add-ons, everything else to same ?
i was beginning to think i'd have to make the sacrifice and upgrade to to win 11 which i dont want to still running win7 using classic shell for that win95 look

I had them ready (regular backups of all files). Did not need them. It was as if the auto update had worked. Smooth as silk & still working fine today. Good hunting all. :>))

I used the link provided by Boondog (https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/115.17.0esr/) and selected win64/en-GB/ to download the Firefox Setup 115.17.0esr.exe programme. After backing up my current Profile folder as a precaution, I ran the Firefox 115.17.0.esr setup programme and the version installed successfully. All settings, bookmarks, etc were retained. MozAJ, did you simply click on the 'setup' icon and let things happen, and it also installed it, without you having to click on 'install' ? I have the 32 bit version. Was there an option for 32 bit ? Thanks

jmb7, go to https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/115.17.0esr/win32/ and select your language, in there select the .exe file to download.
Double-click the downloaded file to install it, that's all.

Update: I went ahead and did as Boondog suggested. Just had to answer some questions in the setup, and it installed at the end of the questions. FF settings say I now have 115.17.0 and that FF is 'up to date'. Woohoo !
Thanks, Boondog, and the other folks in this discussion. I thought I was going to have another typical epic struggle to find an answer, but I was saved by this discussion ! Thanks again ! (Seems to be the only source of a solution out there currently)

I used the download/install method suggested by Boondog successfully this time for 17.0. I will have to wait for 17.1 to give it a try. Did it have something to do with the first kill date function before this extended extension? Just curious. Thanks.
