There should be a way to customize the new menu from the very beginning. It is clear that people use different parts of it, and should be able to personalize what's reachable instantly and what's tucked away.
For me, putting away 'translate page' is the step where I started to look after other browsers. The small icon in the URL bar is increasingly missing, now I can't switch quickly from the menu either.
I do not see the logic in your changes besides the 'oh it looks better' (or ride the hype) factor.
