exposing selection state of folders in saved search dialogues and other places

Hello,

I am visually impaired and use NVDA, a screen reader available at https://www.nvaccess.org. I have observed that within Thunderbird, specifically in saved searches and various dialogues such as offline sync management, the states of folders—whether selected or not—are not communicated to screen readers. I tested this using Narrator as well, which consistently reports folders as selected, even when this is inaccurate. I was able to reproduce this issue on Thunderbird 115 and am currently running version 140.5.0esr (64-bit).

To replicate the issue:

  • Launch NVDA.
  • Open Thunderbird.
  • Create a saved search.
  • Access the properties of the newly created folder.
  • Click "Choose" and use the arrow keys to navigate; you will notice the selection state is not voiced.
  • Perform the same steps under File and Offline dialogs—the behavior persists.

There is another area in Settings, possibly related to cache, where this issue may also occur, although I cannot recall the exact location at this time.

I would appreciate it if this matter could be investigated further.

Thank you very much.

You could file a bug for that at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi/.

thanks. I was unsure if this was a bug so decided to post it here to be on the safe side. I will ge tworking on this.

Maybe a bug, maybe not. And if so, maybe a TB bug or a NVDA bug. Please post the link to the bug here.
