Its edgy and irreverent. Its cool. Firefox doesn't have much brand equity left. Firefox was an unsuccessful attempt to be corporate-cool. (I remember).

I've often wondered why Firefox and Thunderbird weren't called Mozilla Browser and Mozilla Mail respectively.

As for "edgy and irreverent" I would say the the name Mozilla is meaningless and irrelevant to Joe Public.  Of course in an international market being meaningless is no bad thing and often an asset; it didn't do Kodak any harm.
