You require the browser to restart to apply updates. When I go to use my browser for something, restarting the browser instead to apply updates is the very last thing I want to do at that time.

Updates need to happen in the background, or in new tabs/windows only or some other mechanism. Restarting the browser just when I need to use it is a very bad user experience.

Could I suggest using the option on the Settings/Preferences page to choose when to download and install updates? That should put the control in your hands. (Don't worry about missing one -- Firefox will nag you every day.)

Please note that some custom builds for Linux use an external package manager to install updates and the internal setting won't be able to stop those installations.

Yes! This makes me want to switch back to Chrome. It's stupid that this is needed and with how often it updates, it is infuriating when you don't have the time to manually find and reopen every tab you had.

PLEASE ADD OPTION WHEN FIREFOX DOES UPDATE: OPTION SHOULD BE " DO NOT EVER RESTART" BECAUSE WHEN I RESTART THE MILTY OPTION OF USING MORE THAT ONE SCREEN DISAPEARS ON MY LAPTOP SETTINGS AND THEN I BATTLE TO GET A SCREEN BACK ON MY TV USED AS A SECOND SCREEN !!! I AM OLD AND MY EYES CAN NOT READ ON MY LAPTOP. PLEASE!!! OTHERWISE I WILL HAVE TO USE ANOTHER BROWSER.

Is anyone else as frustrated as I am about the VERY frequent up-dating message and the fact that it interferes so regularly with production flow?

Surely there must be a way to 'train' Mozilla to up-date in the background during down-time!

FF/win10-64 - I often don't upgrade my browser because I have lots of open windows/tabs in various states -- even when windows automatically reopen, some of the pages will load differently/be in a different state.

it would be nice to be able to upgrade firefox, leave the existing windows alone, and have any new windows run the upgraded version.

why the hell can't I open a new tab without doing restart after an update?
this is wrong and infuriating.

This is apparently because your OS software has updated the browser underneath firefox's own update software.

I'm not sure why this happens only to firefox, and not other browsers I've installed via package managers, such as Chrome or Brave. Granted that the browser is one of the most complex pieces of software on your machine, so comparisons to software like photo editors and etc don't really make sense, I still don't understand why firefox, over other browsers, has this uniquely annoying behavior.

Personally today was the last straw for me - I was in a video chat running in firefox, and someone asked if I had availability at a certain day. Ctrl+t to open my calendar at google, but nope, restart to use firefox! There was literally NOTHING I could do in that situation. If I want to look at my calendar, I have to leave the videochat. Absolute madness, and so today I finally move this one last device over to Brave browser.
