Is there already a feature request for this?

Example test page: https://gregbenzphotography.com/hdr/#tests

Chrome is able to display the Ultra HDR pictures while Firefox display them very dark.

here you can find a great description how it works in detail, including a demonstration of the components within an ultra hdr image:

todays it's coming even to old Pixel phones:

and with the ongoing adoption of android 14 (ultra hdr is a core function) it will be widely available for pictures taken with android phones...

Please add support for the Ultra HDR image format (not just the backwards compatible JPEG). When viewed on a compatible monitor, the results are truly impressive.

Unfortunately Firefox is missing color management (i.e. P3) and HDR support. There's been a meta ticket tracking this for 5 years at this point https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1539685

With Android, Adobe, Chrome, and Instagram/Threads, all adding support over the last year, I think gain-mapped JPG is going to start to take off this year. I'm definitely looking forward to it, as I've discovered a ton of the RAW photos I've shot over the last several years have significant HDR content and they really do look stunning to see in full HDR.

I've seen a lot of "bump" and "me too" posts on the bugzilla thread, but I'd love to see a response from mozilla at some point 🙂
