May I suggest a translation button in the tools menu, below Downloads? You select your browser language and any page in any other language all you have to do is hit the translation button and it converts it to your browser language. 😁

@Slay3rI think you should suggest this as a new idea in Mozilla Connect.

@tempwall One more reason to support Chinese is that many users in mainland China don't have access to Western translation tools like Google Translate due to the Great Firewall. I am not saying those tools offered by native Chinese companies are bad but having an offline translation option that respects user privacy is always a good alternative. @laoshubaby I have no idea how I could contribute. Does anyone know a way I can contribute to this project?

@Progress2000I also don't know, maybe we need @Jeppie 's reply, he/she/whatever only said "mozilla needs people that speaks chinese and are able to translate to other languages", but there are no specific requirements for what we need to do. Is it necessary for each of us to learn several foreign languages other than English? Perhaps they need help from experts who understand NLP? Perhaps they have a lot of corpus that needs human translation into Chinese? Perhaps they need to...? I have no idea.

At present, the local community in China can only translate the interface text that is allowed to be changed on Pontoon, but this is obviously different from the offline translation of the general text

It can be seen that mozilla still does not really want to provide Chinese offline translation?

@Progress2000Totally accept you, Firefox translator could be great helpful to Chinese users.

@JeppieWhy not try to get help from AI, just like what deepl and tencent is doing?

I have to say that even Vivaldi had provided the Chinese translator, althougn there is still some bugs not fixed.

Users will not wait for you forever, Microsoft Edge is seizing the Chinese market on desktop.

Given that Firefox Translate is based on NMT, a technology that can be considered as AI, I am worried that making it available in China might cause Mozilla Foundation to violate a series of relevant sanctions, thus I think even if Mozilla is to add the support of Chinese language inside Firefox browser, efforts should be made to prevent such feature from being accessible by people in China, including Hong Kong and Macau.

The special version in Mainland of China is distributed by 谋智网络, currently International version of the service cannot be directly used in Mainland of China.

And I think this is an unnecessary worry for the time being, because even the China government, which is very conservative on AI technology, issued the 《生成式人工智能服务管理办法》to restrict the scope of generative AI only

@c933103@ 我不认为这是一个实际存在的问题,中国版本的“火狐浏览器”由谋智(中国)运营而非Mozilla基金会。国际版本的Firefox浏览器不在中国法律管辖范围内,况且Firefox Translate离线运行。

I don't think this is an actual problem, the Chinese version of "Firefox" is run by Mozilla (China) and not the Mozilla Foundation. International versions of the Firefox browser are not subject to Chinese law, and Firefox Translate works offline.

a lot of products are made in China and Japan ,ans when bought in North America , ti find info about them - must use 3 party software to decipher , and the ignorant ,stupid  comment " nothing happens in China" should be deleted !!!! translation in Firefox makes sense and why not cover all languages , not just a few [ handful] otherwise it is not very useful for the masses only a few !!!

Firefox 118 released with built-in translation.

"no Chinese, nothing happens in China." is false statement , if firefox wants to improve , and not just take up room on the hard drive , then support all , not just a few , for a few users !!!!!

I hope the translation function supports Chinese

The translation feature cannot translate other languages into Chinese now
