I thought about separately clearing browsing and downloading history. Some times, after downloading a lot of files it would be very easy to clear the download history list without impact to common browsing history. This capability already exists in Microsoft Edge for example.

I want the browser to forget all download history when I close it, but it seems that currently, this setting also deletes browsing history. Can the two be separated?

I wondered not long ago why they are merged. Good proposal 👍

Replying to agree with this, and to (with hope) bump the idea of separating the options of clearing the download and browsing histories on exit.

I support this proposal, which, by the way, also makes sense the other way around.

Firefox currently combines "Remember browsing history" and "Remember download history" into a single preference. I would also like the option to disable browsing history while still keeping the download history.

The download history is useful for finding previously downloaded files, whereas many privacy-conscious users prefer not to store their browsing history. Earlier Firefox versions offered separate controls for these settings. Restoring this distinction would provide greater flexibility without changing the default behavior.
