From the previous post on Crowdicity:

I would like to see vertical tabs baked in. MS Edge now has it out of the box!

I currently use addons for this - but there's no way to disable the top tab bar, which duplicates the tabs and takes up space.

Vertical tabs (with top bar disabled) would free up more space for web content, which is (usually) vertical. Most screens are widescreen (RIP ThinkPad 4:3 ratios), so the less browser UI at the top/bottom, the more content we can view.

I was looking for this if this was a native way to show tabs, sadly not yet. But I hope it will become native.

Vivaldi does this very well and makes you realise how much more intuitive it is to have the tabs down the side of the page. Firefox feeslquire awkward in comparison. Please Mozilla, do this.

This is why I'm not switching (back) to FF yet. Edge for me, until this is incorporated in a minimizable way. I need my screen real estate.

@JonNot sure what's exciting about "trending idea" – isn't that a step back from "has been reviewed by the product team at Mozilla"?

@everyone great idea... So, but ... I think it would be really cool to have the two ideas together: Native Vertical Tabs (like in Microsoft Edge)+New Compact Design - That would be really big, it would be the best design... of all time ... for Mozilla Firefox ;D

Clarifying my idea:

  1. Edge sidebar has great visuals for better user experience.
  2. A minimal bar as proposed in the New Design Compact makes it possible to use Mozilla Firefox without knowing how to use it, because it is so easy that you learn by doing... This is close to what it would be in Windows... where there is a menu bar that every user already knows... you don't need to know much about how Windows works... Windows makes learning so easy that you learn for yourself how to use it. This is so amazing, this idea of you having such a good interface to use... that I believe that if you put it all together you would have without a doubt... the best browser of all time.

Up for this! I am waiting for this feature to completely switch over Mozilla Firefox. Currently using Edge.

Hello all,

because i use more than 500+ tabs, i love to use Tree Tabs add-on.

Is it possible to Firefox team to develop something very similar natively for the browser?

thank you

To be honest, I'm not sure anymore that it is a good idea for Mozilla to work on this.

I think most who want vertical tabs have already solved it on their own.

I'm uncertain a Mozilla-provided implementation would be better than what users have already built themselves, but Mozilla doing something comes with the real danger of breaking user-implemented vertical tab designs.

Hi all! I found this repository that modifies Mozilla Firefox for this. Source-code: https://github.com/ranmaru22/firefox-vertical-tabs "Vertical tabs for Firefox, inspired by Edge. Works with Light theme, Dark theme, and System theme (auto dark mode). There are some minor glitches with Alpenglow but they should be easy to fix."
