but i guess it wont work on pdf files ... but that is also something that could be fixed in the addon api ... no need to re-invent the wheel.

Reading PDF files aloud is a good idea.

Why has reading aloud been removed from Firefox on Linux?

I am running Firefox 100 (snap) on Ubuntu 22.04.

Worth noting MS Edge is also missing the read aloud feature, but both previously included it.

Is there a licensing issue with voice on Linux or Ubuntu?

Read aloud function as in Google search app

Google search app has Read aloud function. As i know this app is available only for iOS. I often use this function to read big articles, also my friend use it, he has dyslexia and he can't read. So i propose to add such function in Mozila Firefox for iOS (as minimum) - Read aloud.

Iwould be nice if not only PDf files, this reader must read web pages, etc , like MS Edge.

please please consider my feedback please update read aloud text on sites as well as in pdf files like microsoft edge. firefox nightly is a good browser but I go to microsoft edge whenever I have to study for my exams as the microsoft read aloud is very good and functionable. it simple and very good firefox also has it read aloud but for that we have to switch to read view and then click to activate read aloud and to stop we have to again click on the same which is very annoying instead ms edge is simple like bookmark tab we simply have to press space key for start and stop which is very good. please firefox add this feature because I love firefox very much.

I love Firefox Nightly but for read aloud I have to go to Microsoft Edge.

Please Mozilla.org please update read aloud Same like Microsoft Edge It is very very simple to use like we have to simply tab our cursor from where we want to text to speech and simply press space key to stop and again press space to start, I always use that whenever I have to read a book or read some documentation.

There is no extension or add on available, I have checked.

Microsoft Edge has #NO_COMPETITION  in market in terms of read aloud.

Please consider my idea and let's work together on that.

To expand off this, it'd be great if it worked like Microsoft Edge's "Read Aloud" option. I use that a lot and it's one of the main things keeping me from fully switching to Firefox.

Firefox should copy MS edge's read-aloud feature

Yeah, copy the Edge "read aloud" feature. It's great.

i primarily used edge for that reason, but i am not liking their monopolizing strategy (removing google as standard search engine and making it Bing 🤢)
