Thunderbird MOVE reply to folder of message being replied to instead of COPY

I have the option "Place replies in the folder of the message being replied to" selected for my accounts.  When replying to a message, the reply is correctly COPIED to "the folder of the message being replied to."  However, a copy is also placed in the Sent folder.  This gives me two copies of the message and I need to go through the Sent folder and delete the messages that have been already copied to ''the folder of the message being replied to."  This makes Sent folder management difficult.
