In Thunderbird for desktop, in a given account, each identity not only has settings for mail address and signature, but it is also possible to choose an alternate SMTP server to be used.

This is more important than ever when working with mail aliases, due to increased SPF and DKIM checks.

Thunderbird for Android currently only allows one SMTP server per account, not one per identity in an account. This makes it impossible to send mail for an identity that is actually a mail alias.

I agree, modern spam filtering systems are likely to flag mail where the envelope sender differs from the FROM header.  This would also permit workflows that receive domain mail via forward, but do not support IMAP or POP3 access.

Though, I've developed for android in the past, it's been a while, and I'm not - at all - familiar with the codebase... It's ALMOST across the threshold where I'd just add the feature myself, but having been there before, I know how deep a rabbit hole can go, if there are a few more people who could use this maybe ill dive in.

All that said, the workaround for me has been to install k9 mail, configure the same account, add/change the main identity, and change the SMTP server.  But... Yeah.
