Status: New idea

Make it easier to hide the share button in the address bar in Firefox on Android. Together with reader mode and the translate button (if available) there is almost no space left for the address itself. Moving all three buttons to the menu (or at least the share button) would help a lot.

I personally have never actually used this button anyways. First of all, copying the URL is most likely sufficient. And if I ever want to share something I do it from the tabs menu.

I agree.

Is there a "harder" way to remove it right now?

This needs to be added. In certain websites (like news sites in a language other than English) the address bar has a reader mode icon, a translate icon, and a share icon. This makes the text box so small only a handful of letters from the URL show up. I don't ever use the share tool. I don't ever use the reader mode. I don't ever use thehome button. And on the rare occasion I would like to translate a website, I can open the three dot menu and do it that way. You know what I always use? The address bar, to copy the URL, to go to another site, to read the URL. And now the most used functionality of the address bar has only a sliver of space, and getting smaller.

It makes it really hard to click the Url bar with the thumb, when 75% of the width is occupied by home button, share button, reading mode... This is poor UX. Some of these buttons have to go, and share button is a prime candidate. You can share from the menu anyway.

Or better yet, just let people configure what buttons to show.

I agree, sometimes there's the reading mode, share and translate button while you can hardly see the URL. Why not simply add toggles for each of those?

Yes please. Being able to customize what does and doesn't appear like on desktop would be perfect. For example I do use reader mode, but never the home button. Being able to reclaim space from the features I don't need would be so good.

Who thought putting it there was a good idea. Constantly tapping the reading mode button now due to pointless clutter.

Clearly noone that makes these changes uses the browser.

While we are at it, please also consider removing the HOME button.

I don't even know what's the purpose of that button.

In my years of using Firefox mobile, i hva never used any of these two buttons.

Users should be able to tune the address bar to their needs.

I personally:

  • never use the home button
  • don't feel the need for a "secure connection" symbol: I don't open insecure sites (there is a warning by Firefox). A red "not secure" symbol would suffice in case of.
  • never use reader mode
  • never translate sites by Firefox (and would use the three dots menu in case of)
  • share site using the three dots menu

In this new design, there is very little space left for the actual address, making it difficult to see to what site you may have been redirected. Clicking on the address itself doesn't help, since it displays the last part of it when you do so.
This worries me because I will be less able to detect domain name irregularities (e.g. phishing attempts).

Please let us do this. The address bar is now infuriatingly small and borderline unusable.

I'll eleventh this. All the other buttons I rarely use have been slowly encroaching on the ever-shrinking URL bar, and now it's at the point that I usually can't even read the domain name, let alone anything else.

+1 there are too many buttons on the address bar. it may be useful there for someone, but please make this customisable

Im totally supporting the commenter above and want to add that there is currently a way to remove the translate and reader buttons the hard way, but not the home and share buttons. Lacking of such basic functionality as customizing the MAIN interface element you see and use ALL THE TIME you interact with browser is a very very very upleasant
