Using Thunderbird with IMAP servers on several different machines, folders retain data on one client, even after permanently deleting them on another client (and compacting the folder). So it'd be nice if there was a right-click folder function that did a proper "Refresh" and updated the folder to represent what's on the server.

(Even re-starting Thunderbird doesn't immediately "clear" the folder at present.)

Compacting (right click > compact) will do that for now.

I would like to second this idea.  It is annoying to have to wait for mail moved into a folder to appear in a folder.  This can sometimes take several minutes before Thunderbird goes back to the server to refresh the folder.  A "Refresh" option would be very useful.

Before seconding this, I tried the Compact trick and it didn't trigger Thunderbird reloading the folder.

I have a possibly related issue. My companies server has many folders that the server generates based on disposable addresses received (auto sorting). On FairEmail (Android), I just pull down to refresh and any new folders automatically show up. With desktop thunderbird you have to close and re-open thunderbird or go into subscriptions, which is painful. A single click or couple of clicks to update the folders shown/subscribed to would be great even if not shown by default or even if something like shift F5. The android Thunderbird client also lacks this feature.

Thank you for reviving Thunderbird
