Hi, I like Firefox browser for its privacy and customization options and I use it regularly on my Linux based Dell laptop where it was preinstalled with operating system. Mozilla should consider making a new browser based on Java platform and Gecko rendering engine for PC, it will not compete with Firefox but it will complement it similar to the Firefox Focus browser on Android. By providing a different kind of light weight browser for PC and by choosing Java platform will make this browser portable, easier to maintain and it will also provide choice of all the languages that JVM support like Kotlin, Groovy, Scala, etc to existing developers who want to contribute to this new browser by fixing bugs and providing new features or extensions.

Hi, I like your idea about creating a lightweight Java-based browser to complement Firefox. It is always great to explore new ways to bring innovation and flexibility to Mozilla’s lineup of tools.

However, I think the core issue lies with the browser engine that Mozilla is currently relying on Gecko. It is outdated and holding back Mozilla from truly competing in today’s browser market. Instead of using Gecko for any new projects Mozilla should focus on reviving and prioritizing the Servo browser engine. Servo is modern high-performance and far more suited to meet the demands of today’s users.

I recently started a discussion about this very issue. You can check it out here https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/discussions/when-is-mozilla-gonna-ditch-the-gecko-browser-engine-for-...  In my thread I propose that Mozilla collaborate with experts like Igalia and the Linux Foundation to bring back Servo and make it the foundation for future projects. Servo could power not just Firefox but also experimental and lightweight browsers like the one you have suggested.

If Mozilla invested in Servo it could open up possibilities for creating new and innovative products while enhancing the performance and appeal of existing ones. Let us keep pushing these ideas forward and advocate for Mozilla to prioritize changes that genuinely make a difference.
