Like Google, Facebook, Apple...
Make it possible for websites to make a Login with Firefox option available so we have a trusted privacy preserving option given to us (and give Firefox some visibility)

Could Firefox do a 'Sign in with Firefox' like Google and Facebook?

That would be nice. There already is the password manager (I see it is done on here, but if it were done on more sites), and I don't know if the Firefox e-mail is still a thing, but doing 'Sign in with Firefox' sounds like a good idea to get more people into Mozilla and be from a more privacy concerned company than Google and Facebook.

Firefox account already does this for the various Mozilla platforms.

My guess that you mean to open that also to other platforms outside from Mozilla, I think that can be expensive to Mozilla to keep running and they will need to change the privacy policy but is something that they can probably discuss.

Obviously the next step should be that the platforms where you want to login enable that oauth.

Thanks for the reply!

It, of course, will be an expense, but surely it could be managed. With running a VPN service (albeit pay to use) and having a web browser there are costs. I would be willing to pay for a 'sign in with Firefox. Maybe then I could delete my Google account.

I could definitely see this the only problemI see is that Firefox is usually using 2fa keys and encryption methods so a sso wouldn't work maybe if there were a app to be handled directly Firefox and it sends you a sign encryption key evrytime or maybe a qr code to scan there are so many options I'm happy I could comment on the I'm new here and I enjoy feedback.

@Fatal-reaction, welcome! I'm new here as well.

I guess if Firefox wants to continue using two factor authentication rather than single sign on I would still switch. But that may not entice others. They do have the password manager which could be have a SSO account for some.

Having a single account to sign in everywhere is super convenient, but it also has some downsides:

  • easier to track user across different sites
  • attacker need to hack only one account to access many sites

It's best to use a password manager and to have different accounts on different sites.

@SergI know it's not best practice but it's better than a weak password or connecting via Facebook/Google,
also Firefox has a password manager, getting your Firefox account hacked can already make you lose access to all your accounts.
The benefits outweights the drawbacks in my opinion and it expends the Mozilla ecosystem (which in my opinion is missing a big opportunity by not making google alternative services in partnership with other brands but that's an other subject)

Oh, absolutely agree that it's better than a weak or reused password!

Let me ask around, perhaps there are plans I'm not aware of.
